My electric GPW 1600 doesn't stop running when I let off the trigger?

Mostly they don't.
In order to ensure there is no delay in building up pressure for the next spray requirement and to lighten and cheapen the design, the motor is kept running to keep maximum pressure in the line and surplus pressure is recirculated through the pump after being ejected through the unloader or regulator valve.

New Goulds 1/2hp water pump w/Square D switch goes on by itself for ten sec. Then off for 5 sec and on for 2sec. 2 minutes later it does it again.Adjuster nuts do nothing to stop it going on again...?

if you are using a pressure tank, that condition is said to be a water lag. Try to drain your pressure tanks using the following steps,
1. remove the drain plug of your pressure tank. (in most cases it is located at the tank bottom just be aware that there might be a pressure still on the water inside your tank so just remove it slowly).
2. remove the pressure gauge using a suitable open wrench.(this is to remove any standing water inside your pressure tank.Same principle as the 2 holes on a can of milk)
3. after all the water has been drained reinstall your drain plug and your pressure gauge.
4 put a water priming on the pump if necessary before starting your motor again.
The condition above is condition 1, if in case you are using a pressure tank.

We will now discuss condition 2 wherein there is no pressure tank installed on your water system.
Your motor can easily run because there is no enough water to use inside you pipeline since there is no pressure tank on your system. In this case, try to install a pressure tank so there will be enough water pressure build up on your tank before using the water on any water faucet.
Also try to check for water leakage along your water pipeline since frequent motor running when not in use of any water faucet means that the water is wasted on some parts of your pipeline.
Good luck and I hope I've enlightened you.

Motor will not run, power ok, water thtough wand but at mains pressure. How do I tell if capacitor or microswitch?

When first use the motor will run for a second until the pressure build up stops it from then on if it doesnt run when the rigger is pulled but you get mains water out of the nozzle I would be checking for a partial blockage in the wand nozzle or hose
If it is a capacitor , the motor will hum but not move
if it is any switch the motor will not run for the second when you turn it on

I switch the pressure washer on motor starts pressure builds up motor stops. OK pull the trigger on the lance the moter starts sounds different water pressure low. Release trigger motor still runs.

It isnt very clear your explanation of the problem but what type washer do you have first? It sounds like you have a bad unloader or need a new variable nozzle tip. Can you explain in more clear detail. Thanks

Won't stay running

Pressure washer when you first try to start them that stop underload. We had the same type of problem with 11 hp Honda if you hold the trigger open the motor will be under less load we found by running the motor for about a minute it would work normally. Remember to make sure the water hose is turned on pull the trigger on, until water is coming out of the wand , now try and start the motor but also hold the trigger open, now you will not be building maximum pressure, after about a minute release the trigger and see if it keeps running.

there is a water height sensor -- this sensor works via a small tube that is connected to the outside drum and runs down to the pressure sensor,, when water reaches a certain height the pressure sensor stops the fill cycle.

only reason you would have scale build up from hard water in a chainsaw, is if you have water inthe fuel.this sounds highly unlikey ,but water in fuel will make saw run like ****
also the laquer build up from 2 stroke oil in fuel mix will make it run bad
spray some carb cleaner in it or have the carb overhauled

Motor starts and pump is not working. No water is flowing at all..what do i need to do?

Water is supposed to flow slightly through the pump without it running so disassemble the wand and cut on water supply, see if water comes out of the wand on-off handle. The motor does not have to be running. Got water flowing? YES - clean out the wand filter or nozzle hole. A partially clogged filter will prevent hi pressure activation.
NO? disassemble pump and clean out chamber paths.

Also - A pressure pump is not suppose to be running and not used for over ten minutes. The pump can overheat from lack of water passing through and damage the pump seals. A clogged wand is the same as not using it while you try to figger out why it doesn't have high pressure. I found my clogged filter and stopped up nozzle but haven't gotten my real high pressure back yet. Sears doesn't sell the valve seal kit but someone does.

Husky comp on 1st start builds up 75 lbs and wont restart

Check the reset button on the motor to see if it tripped. The motor may be overheating. Some motors have an internal breaker and they have to cool off before they restart. Also check the pressure switch. Move the switch back and forth ( on and off ) and listen for a click. If it doesn't click with low to no air pressure then the switch is bad.
