Is the condenser inside the unit

In a window unit the condenser is in the unit and is at the back of the outside section. With a split system or whole house cooling unit the condenser is always outside. The condenser compresses the cooling gas after it picks up heat from the inside evaporator, and forces the heated gas through a coil with a fan blowing through the coil to drive out the heat. A gas can be compressed, but the amount of heat it contains remains constant. A compressed gas will be hotter than non compressed.

Replaced a starter capicator, now it just bloweswarm air

On hot day your unit may not cool enough. Make sure that outside unit is clean, filter inside should be clean. If all above is good your unit may be low on Freon.

I have a Honeywell RTH230 thermostat. Ive read the manual top to bottom and have set the temperature to 70 degrees and followed all the directions. But my home is still almost 85 degrees, and even hotter...

i am assuming the unit is coming on and all... there could be an issue with the refrigerant in the system such as a leak.. need to make sure the indoor fan is coming on and also that the outside unit is coming on..there are 2 copper lines at outside unit that are refrigerant lines the larger one should be cool and the small line should be warm.. there also should be hot air blowing out of the outside unit... if this is not happening you have a problem with either the freon has leaked or the compressor may not be coming on inside the outside unit \

The unit does not blow cold air any more. Inside is sometimes hotter than outside. will be 85 inside but 80 outside. Have thoroughly cleaned filters, but no change. "comp" light is on

Hi, The compressor has gone bad and it will cost more to replace it then the unit is worth... buy another unit and buy anything BUT an Amcor unit... they are junk!!

I had my a/c charged today because it has not been cooling the house down. It took less than a pound, but it still blows worm air. Fan and compressor all running. I cleaned outside unit, filters, replaced...

It could be that it is not charged correctly. Check the insulated copper
line outside if it is sweating and the condensor is discharging hot air, then the ac is doing all that it can. Check the evaporator inside to see
if the drain has condensate coming out of it.

Getting the heat out of the attic is a good idea, but you must have enough make-up air in the attic for the fan. If you do not have enough
make up air, it will start to draw air from inside the house. One way to check this is if you have a gas water heater and or furnace. If you put
a flame by the exhaust pipe in the basement and it blows it out, then you now have a backdraft problem.

Run the AC withoutthe fan, my real guess is the unit is not properly
charged or you do not have a big enough AC unit.

Hi, I have an Armstrong A/C that blows cool air when the outside temperature is around 75 even up to 77. When it goes hotter then it blows just air. Is there a setting that needs to be changed in order to...

It could be that the unit needs to be cleaned, it could
be that the compressor is tripping on an internal overload because the internal part of the compressor
is surrounded by high ambint air. It does not sound like a freon isssue.

I have a Kenmore model 106.97710530 5,000 BTU unit that was given to me by a friend. I have no owner's manual. Is it hazardous to your health to have the entire unit inside? Does it have to have the back...

It may not be hazardous to your health, but it'll never work that way either. The back side has to go to the outside to discharge the heat that is being drawn out of the room. If you leave it inside, and factor in the heat of the unit running, the room will get hotter, not cooler. They do make extention cords specifically for window units. Check at one of the "Home Hardware" stores, e.g., Lowe's, H/Depot. That should get you chillin' in no time!

Uotside unit blowing cool air but hot on the inside

It sounds like you have a unit called a heat pump. When a heat pump unit is in cooling mode the outside unit blows hot air and the inside unit blows cold air. If the outside unit is blowing cold then the indoor unit is most likely blowing room temperature or warm air. It sounds like the thermostat could be controlling incorrectly or you could have a failed reversing valve which is the device that switches the unit from heating to cooling mode.

Cooling problems

Check the filters inside and the evap coil to make sure it isnt filthy. The evap coil can be cleaned with a credit card if its wet. The large line outside should sweat all the way to the compressor if its got enough freon. Will freeze when its cool outside or not sweat at all if its low. Good luck with it.
