I believe your PS2 has a short circuit and needs another motherboard. If you can do this yourself, that’s great. You can find Motherboards or a PS2 like yours that will not read discs or has Disc Read Errors but will boot up for about $25 on Ebay. If you’re not comfortable with Changing out your motherboard, then click on the "Repair directory" at the bottom of this screen. On the Repair Directory Screen, select Video Game Consoles. Choose a good Repair shop.

My ps2 slim has done the same it has the same red light, i press it and then it flashes green and then back to red, so i know it is getting power and it is reading that i pushed the button. I have done anything to it. it just all of the sudden went dead. I tried fixing the plug in for the power, no change its getting 8.5 V so im lost.

There's a yellow chord in the back that connects it to power, and if that's not plugged in the ps2 won't turn on at all. i had the same problem, and was totally freaked when i though i'd have to buy a whole new motherboard for the thing, but it turns out it was just that the yellow chord had fallen out.

This is a common problem and can be cured quite easily with only a little basic soldering skills. A Free, very good, 6 step, pictorial guide can be downloaded from this link in PDF,
And the replacement part can be found on Ebay ot the net, however this Ebay seller is about as cheap as they come.
Hope this helps!

Can either be the power button(pretty common issue or a loose connector).Depend what kind of machine you have .PS2 have a common denominator...but actually the machine are different each other. The FAT one and the Slim one are totally different

bring it to the technician,,,, if you are less experience on wiring it will damage your ps2 console... besides there is a ribbon that slightly attach to the on and off power and reset just before you fully open it,,,, if you screwed while opening you might junk your ps2

this will unfortunatly clear your system to new state so if it is possible back up your save files on a thumb drive and try this recovery menu ok
