Have you changed to boot order in the bios? set it to boot to the cd first

I am not sure about the thinkpads, some computers are different, but from a cold boot, you want to hit either the (del) or (F11) or even (F10) once every second till the bios shows up, then firgure out where in there you can change the boot order to make the cd rom as first boot device, save and exit the bios, make sure your 98 cd is in the drive when it boots and it should auto run. hope this helps you

How to format r51

You can use your Windows installation CD to format the hard drive and install Windows again.
Boot up the ThinkPad with the Windows installation, follow the instructions to delete the existing partition, then create a new partition, then format the hard drive - do a full format, NOT a quick format.
You can then continue to complete the Windows installation.

Before you begin, be sure to go to Lenova Website and download the appropriate XP software & drivers and burn them to a CD or flash drive. You will need them after the install is completed. After that is completed, you are ready to install. Insert the XP Install disk and choose INSTALL XP and on the next screens drop down menu, choose UPGRADE. Follow the instructions. for registry error i don't think its required for replace the hard disk ... boot the laptop through win98 boot able cd and delete the all partition using fdisk command and try to install the os .............

its so we can not install xp in model 1255 it will spoils your hard disk all you can install win98 ED 2 only..... so its wise not to try it and reinstall using win 98 install disk. if format is not possible do format using Fdisk command.
step 1 :enter dos floppy
restart ur lap enter from insulation option.
chance boot perority to floppy disk ie Shift +.
restart lap
enter fdisk in commant

Formatting IBM Thinkpad 600E

I know you can't boot from the Windows 98 CD, and probably not from Windows 2000 either. It is possible to turn the the Windows 98 bootable floppy into a bootable CD, but I think you would be much better of trying to install Linux.

ThinkPad A21m won't boot into Windows

Did the laptop you got come at least with a windows XP cd? If so boot the laptop off of that and try to install Windows XP and see if it goes thru. Just make sure during the installation you tell it to delete the partitions first and then let it go thru that way you know for sure the hard drive is clean at that point.

hi,
i have dell c400 laptop, its to much simple to install xp
first you just take out hdd from laptop
plug in tht hdd in desktop pc by external usb box
now u just start windows 98 setup in it
when it started first format ur drive then install it
when windows 98 setup files copies to 100%. machine need to restart
u just plug out the hdd and plug in back to laptop
now the setup will remain start in ur laptop and when the installation complete u just upgrade ur windows from 98 to xp by intalling xp from external drive on OPERATING SYSTEM OF 98 WINDOWS
NOW WAT U SAY???
ITS TO MUCH SIMPLE just try once

Windows 98 install

It could be a memory related problem. Try to test your memory module by installing it to a different system that is surely working. If that system restarts, then you must replace the memory module.
