Monitor Turns Black

I have been facing this problem since the very first day i made my computer.
I have a old CRT Monitor and a brand new CPU.
When i plug in the VGA cable and thighten the screws my mouse stops working even the light in the mouse turns off.
So i have to just push the VGA cable in the socket a bit(just that much that it gets the power and signal) and my mouse starts working and everything is fine.
Yesterday when i tried to switch on my system, my CPU turned on , the CPU light is on and fan is running, but the monitor is black.
if i unplug the VGA cable it turns on and i just see light blue light on the screen which i belive is due to no data being provided to the monitor.
I'm very much confused what is causing this and frustrated because i have some urgent work to do but my monitor is black.
I have tried help from other people but nobody was able to help me, depending on you.

This is nothing to do with CPU but maybe your GPU (Video card) It sounds like you built the machine your self & from what you've said it could be an earthing issue if your screen turns off when you tighten the screws or it might mean that your video card is not properly seated. Try pulling out the video card a re-seating it. Also make sure no cables are touching each other inside the case. It has nothing to do with you CPU of that much I am certain.

HI i JUST BOUGHT A NEW COMPUTER BUT KEPT MY OLD MONITOR AND WHEN I TURN ON THE MONITOR THE GREEN LIGHT IS ON BUT I HAVE A BLACK SCREEN.

Good Day,
Please check the connection of the display port, may it be VGA or DVI. Be sure to have it connected to the right port. If the Computer have a video card, usually placed at the expansion slots, the Cable for the monitor should be connected there, not onboard. Onboard display port is located just below the PS2 plugs, where your mouse and keyboard (violet and green ports) are plugged in.
Also you may try the computer using other monitor. Possibly the resolution the CPU / computer is so high, your old monitor can have it displayed.
If all fails, you may ask from where you have bought the computer for possible fault on the new system.
Hope this helps, thank you for using Fixya.

Screen turns on 1 second then turns black

With a known working monitor try it on the computer. If the monitor stays on then you know the original monitor is bad. If the monitor goes off after 1 second again, then you know that the video card is bad.

I have a HPw1907 monitor and it will turn on for about 2 seconds, and it turns off. The CPU is fine, just a problem with the monitor. Any way to fix this?

We have the same model of monitor and had the same problem few days ago. The monitor just goes black/turns off. I noticed that the power button has a yellow blinking light and cannot be turn on/off again using the power button. The CPU is working fine also. When I turn off the avr, the power button's light turns blue for a few second and you can hear a click sound from the back of the lcd before it totally turns off. My lcd monitor is over a year old now and is 110v or 220v capable. Mine was originally in a 220v, i just put it in 110v and the monitor was fixed.. Hope this can somehow fix your problem.

Color problem

There are three Cathod Ray guns responsible for the millions of colors. All colors are produced by mixing the three basic colors namely Red Green and Blue (RGB) at suitable proportion. If any one of the three guns fail firing then we get improper colors. This can be rectified by
(1) hitting the monitor at the back by keeping it on a pillow the screen facing down - it will reolve the problem if the failure is due to the loosening of the Head due to repeated thermal expansion and contaction.
(2) check the signal cable for loose connection, twisting etc on both ends - at the back of the CPU and Monitor (it is fixed)
TRY YOUR LUCK

Monitor is busted!

If your pc works on another monitor. I would recommend you buy a new LCD monitor or a used CRT.

The best solution if your computer works is to buy a LCD screen, I've thrown out my 17" crt screens they aren't worth anything these days. You can get a used crt from ebay

Over here where I live I bought a used crt for 25usd thats was over a year ago.

Theres really no point in trying to repair the screen if its broken, buy a working one or a brand new lcd.

Good luck.
