Question about Air Tools & Compressors

1 Answer

My 5 hp, 25 Gal. Craftsman air compressor is blowing a lot of air out of the muffler and little into the tank. I dismantled, cleaned and oiled the head and it seems a little better but still won't pump up pressure. Any suggestions?

The model No. For the compressor which is blowing air from the muffler is 919.165250. I checked the sears site but didn't see an intake valve. Thanks for your help. MMG

It sounds like your intake valve is worn or defective. Take the head apart again and look to see if the valve is sealing properly. If you post a comment with your model number I can look up the specific parts at sears parts.

If your compressor is functioning properly, air should not come out of the intake muffler (filter)

Thanks,

Tim

Mike:

If you have air blowing out of the oil filler cap, I would suspect that the piston rings are shot. The piston rings are supposed to keep the compressed air above the piston, and air seems to be leaking past the piston rings into the crank case.

The tank fills with air, but the motor doesn't shut off. It continues to run.

Pressure switch is stuck on, dont use this until its fixed!!!!!, you could overfill the tank with excess air, it could be adjustable or the switch may need cleaning/replacing.

Compressor runs to 175psi but trips pressure relief when pressure drops tries to restart motor but motor wont turn blows breaker. changed whole pressure switch have same problem.

The problem is lilkely the check valve between the compressor and the tank -- it is alowing pressure to build from tank to compressor preventing the compressor from turning over. Clean, maybe replace, check valve...
