What would cause engine yo die at a stop light and not start again. The engine almost turns over but doesnt.

engines stopping at lights can sometimes be attributed to a vacuum leak in the brake booster
test by idling the engine with the hand brake on and no foot brake then apply the foot brake and if the engine dies then it is the brake booster
hard to restart may be the vacuum leak if you still have your foot on the brake.

How to get to brake switch

Putting one foot on the brake to put the brake light on will not stop the engine from running. If the headlamps are on try removing the battery and allowing the ECU to reset.

My brakes feel like they arent going to stop.

This is most dangerous for you. I think that your power brake boost has failed, possibly due to a split vacuum hose. You can test this...
With the engine off, pump the brake pedal hard a few times. Then press down hard on the pedal and start the engine. You should feel the pedal sink perceptibly under your foot.
If this seems OK then your brake pads may be down to the metal on one or more wheels even though you here no noise. Remove the front wheels and have a look, as on p22 here (a later model).

If the pedal feels spongy underfoot, and you can get better brakes by pumping the pedal vigorously, then there is air in the brake system, and it will need to be bled, as on p9

You may need to reset the system.

SEQUENCE ACTIVATED BY THE PARKING BRAKE .
1. While engine is running (key in ignition switch), apply the brakes and hold the pedal down.
2. Move gearshift lever to neutral.
3. Apply the parking brake Once Twice
Note: The system can be set - at time of installation - to require that the parking brake be applied once or twice.
If set for two actuations, pause one second between the two.
4. Remove key from ignition (the system keeps the engine running).
5. Exit the vehicle.
6. Within 60 seconds, close all doors.
7. The system will stop the engine and blink the parking brakes once to confirm the sequence is valid (vehicle is
ready for a remote start command).
SEQUENCE ACTIVATED BY THE REMOTE CONTROL
1. While engine is running (key in ignition switch), apply the brakes and hold the pedal down.
2. Move gearshift lever to neutral.
3. Apply parking brake.
4. Send the start command (Model 801 & 2101 - Model 903 ).
5. Remove key from ignition (the system keeps the engine running).
6. Exit the vehicle.
7. Using the remote, send the STOP command. The system will stop the engine and parking lights will blink once
to confirm that the sequence is valid (vehicle is ready for a remote start command).

Every time I use the lever to get the blades started it kills the engine. it does it even after i removed the belt. what is causing the blade rotation lever to kill the engine?

hi there talane

sounds like you have a safety switch problem

try disconnecting seat switch and retry if works could be wire grounding some where or faulty switch then try fitting a jump wire to seat switch wire connector then retry then check blade engagement switch may be playing up or a nuetral switch playing up but more likely a seat switch

with operator off seat and park brake on engine runs, but with pk brake off and operator off seat
engine stops , same if operator leaves seat and blades engages -engine stops,

if unit not in nuetral and pk brake not on unit wont start

take look

hope it helps

I have 1996 ford thunderbird lx 4.6 liter v8 engine and how do i remove power booster brake from the firewall!

Pull the vacuum hose off the booster. Disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder. Remove the master cylinder. Remove the windshield wiper motor if it's in the way. Inside the car, disconnect the stoplight switch connector. Slide the stop lamp switch off the brake pedal just far enough for the outer arm to clear the pin. If you have cruise control, remove the speed amplifier. Remove the booster attaching bolts/nuts. Slide the booster pushrod, bushing and the nylon washer off the brake pedal pin. In the engine compartment, pull the booster forward and rotate it until it is free. Good luck!

look on th eback of the brake pedal and you will find the brake switch wiggle it to see if it's loose if it is you will have to replace the switch, costs about $10.00 and does not take special tools to remove.

My 1989 Daihatsu Charade CLS (3 Cylinder) has a low idle

The E-brake light is on because the brake is slightly on, or the fluid is low, or the brakes are failing It sounds like the fluid is getting low from normal brake wear and not a problem. Just get the front brakes cheched and replaced. Don't put any fluid in because the new brake pads which are thicker will take up the space the fluid has dropped and push the fluid back to the correct level

Your engine is shutting down at idle because of a a bad seal on the engine induction system. It is the big duct that connects to the engine air intake. Leave the car running at idle, E-Brake on, and squeeze the big black duct going from the air filter to the engine, Does the car shut off? Next check small little hoses that attache to this big air duct. Try moving them a little to see if the engine runs different.

If these are good then I would shut off engine and remove this duct. A hose clamp holds one end. A slotted srewdriver will work to remove this clamp. The other end, at the Air Filter simply unclamps by hand.

The Throttle Valve is the first thing you see in the engine, it is inside the intake just after the duct you removed between the Air Filter and Intake. Have some one open the Throttle by stepping on the gas pedal and see if it is clean around the edges. If not, use some cleanning alcohol from your medicne cabinet to clean this area. A toothbrush will get into the tight spaces. Wipe clean with paper towel. Autozones sells a special cleaner called Throttle Valve cleaner spray. Use this not Carburator Cleaner.

If it still runs bad a idle the idle valve could be dirty and now you need more tools to remove it and clean too.
