It is possible you have a malware infection that has change your network settings. Perform a virus and malware scan, then once that is completed, open a browser window. Do not worry that it won't connect to the internet, now look to the right and clip the drop down menu named"Tools". Scroll down to the bottom and click on "Internet Options". Once this is opened, click on the "Connections" tab at the top. Scroll down and choose LAN settings. When this window opens, make sure everything is unchecked except the first box that says "automatically detect settings". The most important thing is that everything in the bottom of the page that involves proxy settings is UNCHECKED. Hit apply and /or OK.

Error when i try to download skype or avg

You may have a virus or malware infection that is stopping you.
If you are being re-directed to other sites.....
Go to ..Control panel / internet options / connections / lan settings, and untick proxy server if it is ticked.
Then use this guide http://www.fixya.com/support/r5272277-secure_clean_computers

It keeps saying internet explorer cant display page but the wireless connectin says it is connected but i can get on the internet at all even if i connect an ethernet cable still says same thing. any ideas

Hi there,

It is possible that the website you were trying to access no longer exists or you might have typed an incorrect url. Try accessing other websites, also try using another browser like Firefox.

Also, it is possible that your computer could have been infected with a virus that blocks your connection to the internet. That happened to my computer last year. I reformatted my pc and that did it.

Hope this helps.

Internet and outlook will not work after installing new printer. keep getting popups telling me that my computer is infected and i need to purchase anti-virus software.

Your computer is almost certainly infected with a type of virus sometimes called ransomware. This is malicious software that tries to get you to purchase software to remove a virus, but it is a scam and you SHOULD NOT purchase the software offered.

If you can describe exactly what message you see, in particular the name of the software being offered as a solution, I can describe exactly how to resolve this problem.

The following may confirm my diagnosis:

1) Open Internet Explorer and choose Tools from the menu bar, then select Internet Options

2) Select the Connections tab at the top of the dialog box and then click the Lan Settings button near the bottom

3) You should now see a box titled Local Area Network (LAN) Settings

4) In the bottom half of this screen you will see a checkbox against 'Use a proxy server.......etc. IF THIS BOX IS CHECKED YOU SHOULD UNCHECK IT AND CLICK OK

5) Now try connecting to a website of your choice and see if it works.

If that worked then my diagnosis is correct. HOWEVER, next time you reboot your PC the problem will be back again. You will need to competely remove the ransomware, and I will need to know exactly which variant it is to advise you. It will involve a few simple steps, but it does depend on exactly what infection you have.

Please respond to this post if you would like me to assist further.

Lan problem

You LAN is not connecting to your Internet Service Provider, hence the LAN has a red X and therefore cannot open a WEB page.
Check your LAN cable, make aure it is connected to both the LAN port on the modem and the LAN port on the computer.
The red X on the LAN should disappear when the network connection is re-established.
Also power off your modem for 1/2 min, and power it on again and restart your computer.
Let me know if you have further problems and any error messages.

Stopped connecting to internet through land line

hi there, i had kind a same problem with u, the only difference is mine shows "connected" but i can't surf the internet when others in my network are doing just fine. 1st i tried to uninstall my LAN card driver and the reinstall it back. It worked, i can surf the internet but only for a few minutes. So i installed a firewall, in my case, i installed windows defender. After reinstalling my LAN card driver, i realized an unknown program tried to change some of my LAN driver files, so i denied the program access using windows defender. The problem solved !! Maybe it's a virus or spyware, i don't know because before installing windows defender, my avg and antispyware don't detect any virus/spyware. Hope this help, gud luck

Computer Freezes when connected to internet.

The first step is to verify that you are not infected with a spyware or virus infection. The fact that you are only having freezing problems when you are connected to the internet is a sign that you may have some kind of infection.

The Geek Squad website has links to free online virus and spyware scanners that can tell you if you're infected.

http://www.geeksquad.com/tools/detail.aspx?id=377

If those scans come up as clean could you please post a Hijackthis log file so we can look at what processes you have running?
