Wavy lines our hitachi 53swx10b has wavy green and fusia lines mostly along the top and bottom of the screen. also everything has a shadow effect. the tv is approx. 5 years old. any suggestions? it was working fine up until a couple of days ago.

Convergence ICs have failed. The Sony type 1 convergence repair kit available from www.tvrepairworld.com is the correct kit for your model. The kit contains the parts and the CD with instructions.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Rear projection t.v.s work differently than most. They have threw lights that throw the picture onto the screen, instead of having a color tube that is in a traditional television. It would be my suggestion to bring it to a Qaulified T.V. professional to have watever bulb is bad replaced. odds are it will either the blue or the green(hard to remember exactly but i think its a green one lol) and not the red.

Either a bad optical block or possibly a bad LVDS cable, you need a qualified tech to know for sure

This is a convergence issue..both chips need replacement.

Sounds like a convergence promblem.

Here are some of the most common symptoms of a convergence problem.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence or magic focus section.

Try to adjust the convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Its a fairly easy fix on the Hitachi sets.

The problem is called green geometry.There is nothing wrong w/the green pix tube.It is critical to get the green geometry

accurate because the red and blue convergence overlays on

the green.If you have more than an alignment issue,that will need

repair before adjustments are attempted.
