Our Sony TV started to display something that looked like interference, with sharp horizontal white streaks across the screen, accompanied by loud popping noises. It has nothing to do with the cable,...

According to the symptom the FBT Which is called "Fly Back" is popped, and it needs replacement. Details like Part No. and Description is given below:

145334611 FBT ASSY (NX-6000//J1J4)

Replace the FBT and your tv work fine again.

Toshiba 32a43 32' picture garbled mess

If you can get the tv to display the blue blackground(usually happens when there is no antenna or cable feed to tv) check to see if the whole screen is a solid blue, if it shows discolored areas around the screen then you might have to "demag" the screen. See if you can rent a demad coil from a tv shop and with tv on turn the coil in circular movements all over the front of screen till blue is solid.good luck!

Picture horizontal problems

There is a sevice menu but it is something a repair man has to adjust. Even to get to that menu is a matter of procedure. If the picture is not always squeezed down then adjustment is not the problem. If it is intermitant it could be a bad solder connection on the main board.Sometimes a bad vertical ic and leakey capacitors can be the problem..
Bottom line is there is not much you can do to correct the problem. You are going to need a service man

Picture problem

Usually that symptom is caused by cracked solder joints on the vertical output IC. As the IC starts heating up, the picture starts breaking up at the top with several "dancing" dark lines appearing, the top scrunches down and then when the vertical quits altogether, the screen goes completely black. A good slap on the side of the TV might make it happen faster or clear it up temporarily. If you have experience working on PC boards then you can resolder the pins of the vertical output IC but if you have never soldered parts on PC boards then allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.
