What is color temperature for?

When you turn the color temperature down, does it lessen the wattage output of the bulb ?

Set it to default. Color temperature has no effect with the wattage output to its bulb. Electro help

Can the use of a higher wattage headlamp bulb damage the regulator?


NO
bulbs have nothing to do with regulators
regulators control the voltage of the alternator and therefore the amperage output of the alternator
what higher wattage bulbs will do
if you have plastic reflectors , they will melt the reflectors
if you run too high a wattage bulbs , you will burn the wiring harness to the lights as the current draw will exceed the wire capacity to handle the amps
if you have current 55/65 head light h4 bulbs then going up to 55/85 will be about as high a wattage you can go before you have to consider relays for each bulb and the reflector quality

The output of the generator is listed as a constant voltage and a maximum current or wattage - that could also be thought of as capacity.

Typically, it would be rated for 120 or 120/240 volts for generators sold in North America and the wattage could be as low as 3,000 - 5,000 to substantially more than that. If you were to look at the watts or amps while a connected light bulb were turned on, you would see the voltage stay at 120V, but the amps would go from 0 to .833 Amps - and the wattage from 0 to 100 (assuming a 100 W bulb). Next, connect a toaster - again the voltage stays at 120, but the amps and wattage would jump from .833A and 100W to 8 or 9 amps and 1100 watts. As soon as the toast was done - the amps and wattage would drop back to .833A and 100W. The same could hold true for a well pump or air conditioner that is connected to the generator.. these devices turn on and off automatically as determined by a pressure switch or thermostat. Seeing a wattage or current that fluctuates is normal as the amount of power needed from the generator changes as the devices turn on and off by them selves.

Also, it is not unusual for motor operated devices to draw 2 or 3 times as much amps or wattage during the first few seconds when starting as opposed to what it uses when running.

How to install turn signals on a 1999 HD Wide Glide


If it has wiring in place to power the lights and mounting locations, go buy some turn signal lights that will look good and fit the mounts you have. Connect the brighter colors from the bike wiring to the brighter colors of the turn signals and the same for darker colors.

If you buy signals with LED lighis, buy a 12 Volt turn signal flasher that is made for LED's--eBay has them. If you choose turn signals with incandescent bulbs (the traditional type), be sure each bulb draws 16 or 17 watts as other wattages will not allow a standard flasher to operate correctly--google the bulb number to find out. With other bulb wattages, the signals won't flash; they will stay on or not turn on at all as standard flashers are made to drive 2 16-watt bulbs; 32 watt loads. The good news is that the flashers made for LEDs will work with any type of bulbs or LED's, so go ahead and order one of the LED flashers to avoid trouble shooting the signals once they are installed.

Standard Appliance bulbs designed for high temperatures are 40 watts and sold at any hardware store. Take the old one with you just in case it has a non-standard base. -DellTech1

I just installed a 1000 W 3-way toggle dimmer for a load of 12 75 W recessed lights, each holding 65W bulbs. When I turn the lights on, the metal plate around the dimmer gets very hot. Is this normal?


The watt rating is absolutely critical to the operation of the device.
The high heat is a direct result of too much amperage flowing through the dimmer.

Reduce your wattage immediately or stop using the dimmer.
You have a fire hazard.

According to the math, you have 20 - 65 Watt bulbs
Change 12 of the bulbs to 40 watt and you will drop to the 1000W max.
12 x 40 = 480W
8 x 65 = 520W
Total = 1000

However I am worried about this circuit.
A typical 15 amp switch (not a dimmer, but the switch) is maxxed-out at 1440 Watts.
So if you had 20 100 watt bulbs for 2000 Watts, it would heat up the 15 amp switch
It seems very odd that an electrician would put 20 lights on one circuit without having a 20 amp switch and 12 gauge wire.
Look at the markings on the switch you replaced and look for amps or watts.
And then look at the color of the wire cable inside your box ... 12 gauge wire is yellow and the lighter-weight 14 gauge wire is white.
If you have a white wire going to all those lights, then you are going to burn down the house unless the total wattage is reduced.
Volts X Amps = Watts.

I think your circuit needs a review to make sure it has the correct wire.

This being said, Lutron makes 1800 Watt dimmers.
You can web search: 1800Watt single pole dimmer
If you have yellow-colored 12 gauge wire, it can carry up to 1920 Watts

What is the wattage?


Oddly, the owner's manual doesn't say.

You can contact GE customer service here, or if it's working properly, here's a test that will tell you how much output power it has:

MICROWAVE HEATING POWER TEST

The following test will provide a suitably accurate measurement of the output power of any microwave oven. Variations or errors in performing this test will produce uncertain results. If the line voltage (from the electrical outlet) is low, the magnetron output will be correspondingly low.

Equipment needed:

- Microwave safe container with 1000 mL (1 Liter) gradation.

- Fahrenheit or centigrade thermometer

Procedure:

Pour exactly 1000 mL (1 Liter) of cool tap water into the container. Using the thermometer, stir the water, then measure and record the temperature. For accurate results the water should be about 60 degrees F (20 degrees C).

Place the container on the center of the oven cooking shelf (do not leave the thermometer in the container and remove any metal racks), and heat the water (at full power) for 63 seconds. Use the second hand of a watch, not the oven timer.

After the heating time is completed, immediately remove the container, stir the water, re-measure and record the temperature of the heated water.

Subtract the starting water temperature (step 2) from the ending water temperature (step 3) to obtain the temperature rise.

To determine the output power in watts, multiply the total temperature rise by a factor of 38.75 if you're using a Fahrenheit thermometer or by 70 if you're using a centigrade thermometer.

Can I connect more than 6 lights to one garden light fixture package and if so how do I do it?


If you are referring to a wired low voltage light set (you listed under a ceiling fan, so I'm not positive what we're working on) Yes, you can, providing the total wattage of the bulbs is less than the wattage output of the transformer. (i.e. If you have a 50 watt transformer and 6 watt bulbs 6X6=36 you could add 2 more lights, which would be 48 watts) Do not exceed the rated output of the transformer. As to how, they usually use some form of wire piercing connection and usually come with instructions for how to use their connector. Good luck

Any parts store will sell them however getting the same color might be hard, you may have to replace both so you have the same wattage and color. Go to napa and they can tell you what you need and what wattage you have.

My low voltage landscape lights are constantly going on and off once the timer activates them initially. I suspect there is a short somewhere, but is there a good way to locate the short besides pulling up...


Your transformer must have output greater of the total wattage required of the entire system. Example: Putting lights that draw a total of 250 watts with only a 180 watt transformer will result some lights not working, or dimming and flickering, or intermittent power outtages. I learned this from experience. Always go with a transformer that has more wattage available than what is needed. Also, using the incorrect gauge of wire can cause the same issue. Wire creates resistance. Distance the power must travel through the wire creates more resistance at the end of your run than the beginning.
