Question about HP Compaq ProLiant ML350 G3 Server
HP does not support any desktop OS on a server platform so the CD that comes with the machine will be of very limited use, particularly for Vista given the age of this machine. Your best bet(no guarantees) is to download the SmartStart CD for Server 2008 from HP.
Once you have burned a CD, boot from it and follow the directions for installing Server 2008. When it comes time to put in the 2008 DVD, put the Vista DVD in instead. It will likely not take this gracefully. If it does, great. If not, reboot the machine with the Vista DVD still in the drive. It should find the drivers that SmartStart left on the hard drive OK and proceed
Unfortunately there is a good chance that it will reject one or more dirvers, particularly storage. Depending on what type of drives and controllers you have, you may be able to find drivers from the chipset manufacturer. One other option is to search for an appropriate driver for an HP X class workstation. They share many components with Proliants and do support Vista.
Good luck and if you need more assistance let us know.
