When I try to use my Dyson DC59 it won't start and blue lights on both sides of the battery start blinking. What does this mean?

It was fully charged when I started to use it and only ran for less then 5 minutes. Then it just stopped and the lights started blinking.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

From what you've described, it sounds as if you may be using your DC59 set to Boost mode. This will provide 6 minutes of highest suction for really stubborn dirt, but for regular vacuuming normal mode should work effectively.

To switch back to normal mode, ensure your machine is fully charged (this will take a maximum of 3.5 hours), then hold down the on/off trigger, and at the same time, press the illuminated Boost button on the rear of the machine.

SOURCE: My dyson stops suction after about 30 minutes and

      Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. Like most Dyson cleaners, your DC14 is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the cleaner if it starts to overheat. This is often due to a blockage, or because the filter needs a wash. The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online guide:

      http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=626&product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

The correct way to wash the filter is shown in the video linked below. The filters should be washed in cold water without any detergent, at least once every 3-6 months. Always ensure it's totally dry before replacing it.

      http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1461&product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

By clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've followed these steps and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you and recommend the best course of action.

Hello. I have a Dyson dc59 and it will not charge. When I plug it in to the charger, a light blinks on the charger and the vacuum never charges. Help!

If you bought it new then you may get solution under warranty condition. Otherwise, you have to repair that from your local experts. As the battery is not charging but a light is blinking then I guess there some prob. inside the charging connection and battery or battery got damaged. Many possibilities there so best idea to make contact with repair man or you may but new one if the repair charge cost more from suppliers like "Vacuum Cleaner Helpers".

When I plug it in to charge the blue charging light comes on for 2 or 3 minutes then goes out and charging stops. Have I blown the charger by constantly leaving it plugged in? Please help!

Hi Alvina, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC59 will display a blue indicator light at the base of the hand grip while the machine is taking in power. The light will go out when the machine is fully charged. DC59 will take 3.5 hours to charge fully when the charge is completely depleted, but it will take less time than this if there is still some charge remaining on the battery after use.

Please note, the machine's intelligent control software is designed to ensure the battery only takes in enough power to recharge, and to keep itself topped up. It's safe to leave the machine connected to the charger at all times when not in use - the machine is designed to be stored in this way, so it's always ready to go when you need it.

From the information you've provided, I'm not clear on whether or not you're finding your DC59 works as normal once the blue charging light goes out, or whether it's not working at all. To make sure everything is correct, please get in touch with our experts directly. We'll be happy to talk you through some simple diagnostic checks when you have your machine easily to hand.

You can reach the Dyson Customer Helpline by calling 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) 1800 239 766 (AU), or 0800 298 0298 (UK).

How do i know the dc59 needs charging

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

The Dyson DC59 cordless vacuum has two LED indicator lights on either side of the handgrip, which you'll see where the battery attaches to the handgrip. These will flash to let you know when there's less than 1 minute of charge remaining.

      2b5dc468-8727-414e-93ea-884c6cb69910.jpg

Once the charge has depleted, the machine will shut off - the power won't trail away gradually as with some cordless products.

If your DC59 is making an intermittent pulsing noise when you hold down the on/off trigger, this is likely to be because a blockage in the motorised floor tool, wand or bin inlet is preventing airflow passing through the vacuum. If this is the case, please follow the steps shown in the video below to clear any obstructions:

My dc59 doesnt work green light flashes when you press start button

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

A green light flashing when you try to use your DC59 could mean the battery has no power. If you're confident it's been allowed to charge for at least 3.5 hours, it's possible that the charger cord isn't connecting correctly with the machine itself, so no power is reaching the battery. This is more likely to occur if you're recharging the machine in the docking station, and the charger cord isn't correctly positioned.

We're happy to help you check for and resolve this - if a replacement part is needed we can also confirm if this is covered under our 2-year parts and labour guarantee. When you have your machine to hand, please give our experts a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).
