Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
Hello! I can't figure out how to hook my ps3 up to the internet. I have roadrunner thou my cable company. The computer work but I can't seem to figure out how to get the ps3 to work. I have a 60gb so can I go wireless maybe???
The ps3 wifi is very finicky --
While the ps3 scans for a hotspot turn the router off then on so the router aquires the ps3.
Goto network settings
Goto network connection, select enable
Goto Internet connection settings just below internet connection-
Push yes when it says you may be disconnected
Select wired or wireless
For wireless use scan or enter manually
Follow on screen instructions.
Once that is set up return to main menu and go to network near the right
Then once in the internet browser press triangle and goto file and enter the internet address you would like visit.
If all else fail use the ethernet cable to attach it to your laptop. Then run network setup on the laptop and add the ps3.

Connecting your PS3 to the Internet through your laptop.
Connect your ps3 up; use a patch lead from the ps3 to your LAN connection on you PC, and a USB asdl modem.
Show all connections
Right click over your Internet connection
In Internet connection sharing, tick all 3 boxes
At the bottom click network setup wizard
(Make sure everything is plugged in)
Tick – this computer connects directly
Tick – only local area connection
Don’t fill in computer description
Leave computer name
Tick - just Finnish
3. Right click over your local area connection this time
Click on Internet protocol (TCP/IP)
Tick – use the following IP address
Tick – use the following DNS server
Note: I am with virgin, so on yahoo I put in (virgin DNS settings) and it gave me the following. (Address below).
Preferred DNS server 126.96.36.199
Alternate DNS server 188.8.131.52
Now on your PS3
Internet connections settings
Primary DNS 184.108.40.206
Sec DNS 220.127.116.11
Do not use
Press x on the joypad (don’t test yet)
Now on your PC goto your network connections to view all your connections. Disconnect from the Internet. Your local area connection should be connected still.
Once you press test connection, it should connect to the web by its self.
O and if you have zone alarm security, open it up by clicking the tab
Click on firewall
Set them to MED
Ok test away.
This took me about 2 days of frustration I hope this works for you.

Okay i use to have the problem till we called playstation and they walked us throught it....
your going to need the cord to connect the ps3 and the modem.
-turn the modem off.
-take the power cord out of the back
-unplug the usb cord from the back
-connect the cord in both the ps3 and the modem
-plug power cord back in
-all the lights will show up and then the orange light will b the only one on
-turn it back on
then you have to go to your network settings on your ps3
make the connection wired and anything that you can make automatic do that.

I've had similar issues. I'm guessing if you have a computer and a PS3, then you have a router hooked up to your cable modem? So, first things first, let's figure out where your problem lies:
1. Unplug the cable between your cable modem and your router.
2. Plug the ethernet cable from your cable modem into the PS3 network port.
3. Unplug your cable modem, count to 10, and plug it back in.
4. Set your PS3 to Easy Network configuration, auto everything.
5. Check if you can now connect to the internet from your PS3.
If #5 fails, then you need to talk to RoadRunner support.
If #5 succeeds, then you're looking at an issue with your router blocking connectivity from the internet to your PS3. This is solvable a couple of ways, but they all involve advanced router configuration, which will be different for each router.
- Enable UPnP on your router (try this first)
- Set up your PS3 to use a manual IP address (probably something like 192.168.1.151)
- Turn off your router firewall
- Setup DMZ for your PS3.
More detailed instructions for these advanced scenarios can be found on the official Sony PS3 forums here:

At home you can check your Router and your Modem and do things there. With no access to that, an unable to reboot the Router at a hotel you have to check other area.
Im a Computer Engineer. So my nature to figure shyt out like this.
Crazy since its an Unsecure connection. no WEP/WPA and no homepage that you need to accept anything at. Very uncommon for a business to do it that way.
There must be 3 access points that the PS3 could see, since at times it listed different signal strengths.
Some of the Help tips was to Disable Media Center on the PS3. Did that, and nothing.
Also Disable Network cards, then enable it again. nope.
Most of the helps where about Routers and checking on that. My laptop got on easy.
When i did the wizard it would hang on obtaining IP, then time out.
If i put a Valid IP in, then it would give the DNS error. even if i set the DNS, DHCP servers, or had those automatic.
Why can the laptop be so easy but the PS3 not.. :awcrap:
This was the first time i used Internet connection sharing option. Get to the Wireless properties then click on ADV top right.
Check on Sharing.
Then you have to choose 'Home networking connection" this would be Local Area Connection (your ETH/LAN port on your laptop)
Connect a Lan cord to your laptop into your PS3. Set your PS3 to WIRED connection and go thru the Wizard on Easy or custom with the automatic selections.
BOOM your online!!!
This would be good also if someone has a laptop or computer that doesnt have a wireless card and you need to get that system online also.

For Comcast internet and the ps3 - I have the Arris modem that came with comcast internet.
I know this might have been solved a while ago, but if you're going between your computer and ps3, I know how to do it. See when you disconnect the ethernet from the computer and hook it to the ps3, all the setting will stay on it, and this won't work with the ps3. What you need to do is, after you disconnect the ethernet, you have to hit the reset button on the modem. make sure all the settings are automatic on the ps3, and just click on whatever the default options are for everything else. When you hook up the ethernet, it'll connect everything automatically.
Just remember, you have to reset the modem every time you go between the ps3 and your computer.

Add your ps3's MAC address to your router if it's wifi and reboot both devices.

My PS3 connection the last couple of days has been doing this saying error 80130182 check your network settings.
I use an ethernet cable from the modem to the ps3 always has only the last couple of days it's been doing this unable 2 connect online, pc connection works fine but to go online with the PS3 it refers to checking my settings. I've done the auto test and all but still can't detect i get timed out, the green light flashes behind the ps3 where the ethernet cable is plugged in but for sum reason can't read it.
I managed 2 have a game online this afternoon but i tried again 2nite and said the same error 80130182. I"ve never had this problem b4, could it be the new system update could of affected the connection or sumthing? i think it's up to system update version 2.52 i think

you can go wireless, but personally wired is better. what router do you have? switch everything off, plug a ethernet cable from one of your ports on router to ps3 then then switch it all on. on ps3 go to settings - network settings - internet connection settings - then select easy - then whether you wanna do it wireless or wired (up to you) then let it do its thing, once its found all your settings you can test the connection.
Have you set up an account on your ps3 yet?
