I-BOOK A1005 Monitor dead....

Thank You for your solution with the i-Book A1005

I have removed the hard drive and reconnected it. Then, before I put it all together again, I tested the computer and WALLA!! the computer came on nicely. BUT....
Once I had the whole computer together again I could hear it BOOT-UP but the monitor was'nt working. When i took it apart again the monitor worked again. But when I put it together again the monitor does'nt work.
What could the cause of that be ?

My Western Digital My Book Essentials will not power on

IT appears that the HD is dead
Take it to an IT repair shop and have it checked out
If that is the case , replace it with a sshd unit as there is no moving parts like you have now to wear out
it powers up faster as well

I recently bought a 1.5 terabyte My Book Essential external hard drive. I am trying to copy files from one external hard drive to another with the help of my MAC laptop iBook G4). The laptop detects...

I would suggest copying the data to your My Book as an interim step before copying to the second drive. Copying directly from one removable media device to another will necessarily move the data to your computer temporarily anyway, so there is no disadvantage to simply using your My Book as a middleman in the process.

The whirring noise is the heads trying to read hard drive and then the weird rubbing screech sound and not showing up in your pc. sounds like the drive is dead.

Connected but not detected?

Hi, You need to run updates for your computer. Go to start, program, windows update, run and install all the updates, look especially for any update for hardware, select it and let it install. Leave the My book attached to the computer while searching for updates. Good luck.

The adapter to my Western Digital Book does not respond

The monitor requires a adapter with a current output of 4 amps. but the Western Digital Book adapter can only supply 2 amps (half the current required by the monitor).
This means using the WD adapter on the monitor will stress this adapter beyond its capacity and continual use of this adapter on the monitor will cause it to fail and/or switch off if it has overload protection.
If you are having problems with the 2 amp adapter on the WD Book, then the power adapter could be faulty or it maybe OK when the adapter cools down.
I suggest you get a 12 volt 4 or more amps adapter for the monitor.
You may need an adapter for the WB book too if the adapter is faulty.

My drive won't start up

Don't use a power strip or surge protector.... try to connect the power supply adapter directly to a wall socket. Always safely remove hardware after use

WD Book external hard drive

You can probably reconnect just by unplugging and replugging the drive (either the USB or the power cable)

failing that, rebooting the computer often works
