Fireware port is not sensing Sony camcorder

I have a Toshiba satellite 300 laptop & a sony camcorder DCR-PC300. Both have DV port.But when I connect both with a firewire cable,laptop cannot sense the camera.Laptop's device manager shows ohci compliant ieee 1394 host controller.My operating system is Vista home edition.How could i solve the problem?
