I have a mitsubishi carisma 1800 gli it has done only 38000 miles but i do not know if the cambelt has been changed it is 10 years old what do i do

Change it or have it changed so you know when it was done last and it won't go breaking down on you in the middle of nowhere.A broken timing belt will do a lot more damage and it will be an expensive repair.
Timing belts are supposed to be replaced at 100,000 km's but they do last till 160,000 if driven with care.

When should i change my timing belt on my 06 vw jetta tdi.

You should change your timing belt at the factory scheduled intervals (unless you feel like dropping $1600 on a head and valve job). Timing belts are made of rubber and synthetic material and fatigue over time due to heat and stress. They play a very crucial part because they open and close the valves in time with the compression and exhaust stroke of the motor. If your timing belt is not changed in due time then eventually it will grenade, and there is a very good possibility that it could cause internal engine damage.A $600 timing belt job is much cheaper than a top-end motor build.I hope that I could be of some worthy assistance.........rate me accordingly and thanks for using Fixya!!

2000 VW passat timing belt replacement

80 000miles(120 000km) is recomended by the dealer but it's safer at 40 000miles(60 000km) its safer for town driving and cold conditions considering the diffirence between a cambelt change and a replacemnet engine and downtime.

How much to replace a timing chain on a 2000 vw passat--1.8 turbo-- should i do this?--it has 113,000 miles on it and it runs great.-- have changed the oil on it every 5000 miles since new--

You should have the timing belt changed between 90-100K miles. When you are having the belt changed you should also change the water pump rollers. The total cast would be $950.00
