Hi Scooter,

I run a repair shop called the Playstation Clinic. We stopped accepting PS3 consoles as the parts are not available. The returned PS3 consoles are not much good due to scavenge parts from as they have the same Problem with the Graphics Engine Cooling. I am guessing your PS3 has the same fate. It is currently near impossible to contact Sony through the phone. Contact Sony for warranty Claim on the website

Ps3 cant read ps3 games my ps3 dont work any more because i play a ps1 game in it then the next day the ps3 games dont work any more please can any body fix this problem

Most likely, your PS3's BR-ROM laser, which is used to read the data from the game disks, has failed. You will either need to learn how to replace the laser yourself, or take the console to a local technician to be repaired. If you still have warranty on the console, you can instead send it back to Sony, free of charge, for repair.

My playtstation 3 overheated and will not startup. Is it repairable and is there a solution to not have this happen again?

It is repairable, but generally involves you having to open up the PS3 and mess/replace some parts, which I would not recommend doing.

I would instead recommend sending your PS3 into the Sony support team, and having them fix it. If you're still covered by warranty it will be free, and if you're not it will still be cheaper than buying a new one. Also, Sony should fix it in a way so that it will not overheat again.

To start the repair process, go the Sony's website and find their support page, they will guide you from there.

PS3 get green/white lines and may scramble the images on games every couplf os seconds. Happens to Both Disc games and games on the hardrive. HOME is out of wack too. Store seemed to be OK.

One possible fix is to put the ps3 into recovery mode and formating the drive. WARNING: YOU WILL LOSE ALL SAVE DATA, MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR DATA FIRST. A video tutorial can be found here (
If that doesn't wor kthen there is a problem with the GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) possibly caused by overheating. If your ps3 is still under warranty I would suggest sending it to Sony for repairs, if it is not under warranty then it will cost you $150 to send it in for repairs.

System will not turn on, on attempt the light will turn yellow and flash three times then shut down

Unfortunately this is the PS3 equivalent of the "red ring of death", your console will need to be repaired by Sony.
If your store warranty is still valid, take it there and they'll replace/send it for repairs.
If not you'll have to contact Sony yourself.
Good luck!

My ps3 wont play my games at all

blue-ray drive might be hurt... setup a repair request at if your PS3 is out of its original warranty. Make sure you confirm with the wired extreme people that they think they know what the problem is.

If you send it to wiredextreme, you save 100+ dollars, you can buy an extended warranty that covers EVERYTHING on the system, and you get your own system back instead of some random refurbished one.

All of that compared to sending it into Sony.

Freezing probelm

No all that is stored on the Hard Drive in a different file section from system updates and bios settings. But if resetting the console dont work then its ether starting to overheat or you are on the verge of the YROD which both require you to eather send it back to Sony if its under warranty but if not then you or some one can fix it for you. I repair 360 and PS3 consoles often.

Ps3 keeps freezing

The firmware could be corrupted or fragmented. Don''t factory reset you PS3. instead deal with it by waiting for the optional update coming in a week or so and update your PS3. if it doesn't fix the problem then go and reset it. make sure to backup your day on a flash drive or another storage device

Not reading disks/dvds

Hi there, this is very likely your optical drive that died. Same thing happened to me last month. It first started with the game freezing in the middle of the action or when it was loading after a mission. then it simply stop loading games or blue ray.

Since I was out of the warranty by 2 months, I unfortunately had to pay for repair ($169). Sony will send you a special box to ship your PS3 to their repair centre - should take about 1.5 weeks before getting it back. If your PS3 is still under warranty, you should not have to pay for repair...unless they find out that unit was abused or very dirty. Considering the special box they send to protect your console, usage of Purolator or UPS courrier etc. it is not "too bad" of a price to pay to get it fixed...instead of buying a new one at $500...

They have changed my optical drive and it's now working fine (but for how long??). Looks like this problem was happening a lot to older version of PS3 (purchased end of 2007 in my case, 40G version).

Hope this helps!

It sounds like a problem with the PS3 mainboard, you'll have to either return it to the store, depending on their return policy, or send it in to sony for repairs. If you send it to sony, they should keep the same hard drive, and you won't lose any games, but if you return it, you'll get a brand new one, and lose everything.
