I am having the same problem. It happened before and I got so disgusted I left it in a drawer for about 3 months. I got it out after a few months and plugged it in to charge and did a hard erase and then synced and it worked fine for the last 6 months. Now it is hanging up on the "Palm" screen and when I try the hard erase it freezes until the battery drains and then goes back to the "Palm" screen again when charged.

I use my lifedrive occasionally as an alarm clock. One morning, it woke me as usual and re-booted. It never finished re-booting. It gets to the lifedrive screen and stays there until the battery drains. When I re-charge it to try a reset, it gets really hot to the touch when it is plugged in. Any suggestions? Lee

Same problem.  LifeDrive sticks on Palm screen and then battery dies.  It hangs up trying to hard reset.  After reading the other posts...I guess I have learnd my hard drive is wasted -- you know, 86ed and I need to replace it.  Hmmmm. Wonder how much it will cost.

I noticed this today--probably better than sending to Palmhttp://www.pdasmart.com/lifedriverepair.... At least, the co. is a lotmore reasonable about repair costs. I haven't checked it out, however.

I tried with 8GB CF card--no luck. Gets hung on "Quick Erase." Triedopening, disconnecting drive, screen, input digitizer screen--all combos of these actions--nodice.

They mention Sandisk CF 4GB Ultra II as a better replacement formicrodrive--want a lot, $90, I think (is it modded by them?). Co. alsooffers microdrives, replacement screens, input digitizers, and batteries @$35, and install. Will diagnose for free--send in PDA.

Try a hard reset and if that doesn't work ( the erase program hangs up), then your hard drive is dead and must be replaced.

Palm life drive frozen on "palm one "screen

When you see the first screen (the orange one) hold the UP button as the bar moves across the bottom of the screen. Let go right before the screen goes to the silver logo. If it continues and opens Prefs, then you need to delete the program causing it to reboot. If that doesn't work, do a Hard Reset. A Hard Reset will erase everything on your lifedrive, so only do it if you have to. Hold the Power Button while you push the reset button. Continue with the instructions to finish erasing your device.

Lifedrive won't start. Neither will it reset,

Unfortunetly that usually indicates the harddrive has failed on you. Try a power on hard reset. It is the same as the hard reset but the power need to be plugged in as well.

If you look there are several places that will replace the drive with either a new drive of a compact flash card. The card is the way to go as it increases battery life but is about 10x faster acessing stuff.

The clicking noise usually indicates a hard drive problem. There are replacements available. You can get a replacement hard drive or a flash card drive. Of the two the flash drive is by far the better choice.

My lifedrive when plugged in comes up with the logo (palmone) however the screen will not change. Ive tried a soft reset and a hardreset does anyone have any suggestions. I have used this very little....

Unfortunetly that is typical of the internal microdrive having died on you. If the hard reset doesn nothing then that is most likely your problem.

You can replace the microdrive but if you want to improve your LD you can get it changed to use a compact flash disk such as a SanDisk 4gb card. It will run much faster and for longer. This is a simple thing to replace either but given the choice I'd go with the CF. There are several place that will repair your LD for you if you don't want to fix it yourself. You should end up spendingunder $100

Hard reset

1 Hold down the power (on/off) button on your device. 2 While holding down the power button, turn over your device so that you can see the back of it. Still holding the power button, use an unfolded paper clip or a similar small object, to gently press the RESET hole on the back. 3 When the Palm Computing Platform or Palm Powered logo appears, release the power button. 4 A message will appear warning that you are about to erase all the data stored on your handheld.
