Take out the battery for 10 minutes. Put it back and reboot. Make sure your battery is charged up. If battery is weak, Laptop won't boot up.

How do I connect my laptop to a Monitor

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key. I have an HP Pavillion dv9000. I RARELY use it, but my screen is blank. The power and lcd lights come on, but the screen is blank. I've taken the battery out, connected the power cord and turned the...

This might be a sign of a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp.

Test with an external monitor attached to the laptop. If you get display on the external monitor, then this confirms the case.

HP dv9000 getting power but dark monitor

It is probably that the inverter or the backlights have packed up

Turn the machine so that a strong light shines on the screen from the side you may then see the windows splash screen in the background.

Other check is to plug another monitor into the port on the laptop if that works then it is down to the inverter

Connect your laptop up to an external monitor. If you get a picture on the external monitor then you know that your Chip is fine. At that point You will need to replace the screen.

My hp pavillion dv9000 it has a black screen has power but screen won't come on. It comes on with the power on but the screen is still black

If you can hear the fan and see HDD activity on the fron tof the unit but cannot see any picture, then most likely you have had a motherboard failure at the graphics/video chip. Try attaching the laptop to an external monitor and see if you get a picture on it. If you can, then you may have only lost the screen and the motehrboard is fine. If not, then the motherboard will have to be fixed or replaced.

My hp dv9000 blue keys are on but moniter does not

First try a complete reboot, unplug the power and remove the battery for 30 seconds, then reboot.
if it still is dark the backlight may be out, try an external monitor to see if it works, connect the monitor and hold the FN key then press the switch to monitor button (F9 or F10, has a symbol on it) if the external monitor works you will need to replace the LCD screen or ballst (backlight power supply). voltage checks will tell you if the power supply is bad (do not attempt this unless you are comfortable taking it apart).
lastly sometimes the ribbon cable comes loose in the rear of the screen (inside) again will require disassembly to check and repair the cable.
If the external monitor does not work you may have a bad , video card, motherboard or memory.

Hp dv9000 switches on to show coloured lines on screen.

Hello

My first guess is that the screen circuitry has gone bad - although fixable. Use an external monitor to verify this. If the external monitor is fine then the screen circuitry is bad, if the external screen shows the same problem then the video chip or associated circuitry has gone bad. My company fixes these all the time.
