I've emptied the fridge and freezer cleaned it with baking soda mixture, bleach mixture and natural cleaners. Had it open and off for 3 days. I've cleaned the coils and the water catcher. The smell is back. The back and bottom of the unit does not smell. Only the inside of the fridge and I think the smell is migrating into the freezer and thereby making ice cubes taste funny. Could the issue also as the other post be the ice maker motor? It's a Maytag MBR2255KES bottom freezer w/ice maker.
BTW I don't tend to keep a lot of food in my fridge so not much has chance to rot.

7 year old kenmore side by side refrigerator freezer gets ice build up in the bottom back of the freezer, the drain freezes up, and then an ice dam flows down the bottom of the freezer, and eventually to front of the frezzer bottom. The bottom basket gets frozen in place because of the ice dam. This occurs over just two weeks of being completely thawed out.

KitchenAid side by side refrigerator made a pop sound and had some electric burn smell. Refrigerator still works but the freezer isn't. Any ideas?

I want to remove the Cover to access the cube or crushed switch. How is the Recess cover held on? Should I just 'pop' it off? What are the chances of it breaking? I have a Kenmore side-by-side, model 363.9517711 and I can not get it to crush ice. I get cubed ice, but not crushed. I want to see if the switch is connected but I am having a problem figuring out how to remove the access cover on the (inside freezer) door.
