Question about Poulan Garden

1 Answer

My Poulan Pro 18HP Briggs and Stratton lawnmower won't crank or turn completely over when attempting to crank it. I have the right size batter 230 cca and it is new and charged. I can take the plug out and it will turn over like crazy. Put the plug back in and it just grunts. Please help!

I had the same problem. Mine was under warranty though! The mechanic told me the valves needed adjustment. Starts and runs fine now.

I have a Poulan Pro lawnmower with 5.5 briggs that has been in storage for a few years. When i started it today it runs but the engine surges. Why is this.

There is a gasket/diaphragm between the carb and the fuel tank that has dried up and cracked and will need replacing. Model #: 5083D.You can purchase the replacement at Lowe's for $3 (Item #: 219691). Here are the directions for DIY:

Poulan Pro riding lawnmower 42" 18.5 hp 6 speed It mowed fine. Would not start when I wanted to mow again. Turns starter a little, but not enough to start. Recharged battery--same condition existed. ...

Replace the battery. Even though the battery may say it's good, it doesn't have enough of cranking amps. Go purchase a battery with 350 cranking amps. This will fix your problem. The battery power isn't enough to kick the starter completely up to turn the engine.

Poulan Pro lawnmower (Briggs and Stratton 128 cc engine) will start when primed but will not stay running. New Lawnmovewr, < 3 months since purchased at Walmart

IF IT IS A BRIGG & STRATTON ENGINE YOU CAN GO ONLINE TO BRIGGS & STRATTON.COM AND ASK THEIR TECH SECTION ABOUT THE PROBLEM. FOR 3 MONTHS OLD SOUNDS LIKE DIRT OR WATER MAY HAVE GOTTEN INTO THE TANK. WHEN YOU PRIME THE MOWER YOU ARE FORCING GAS INTO THE CARB AND ENGINE AFTER THAT THE ENGINE SHOULD PULL THE GAS IN THE ENGINE, I WOULD SAY THE CARB MITE NEED REBUILDING BUT NOT AT 3 MONTHS
