Question about Dishwashers

How do you remove the lower spray arm on a Kenmore Ultra Wash (665.17019.402)? I was told to hold on to the plastic screw and spin the arm counterclockwise to remove, but I've been spinning and spinning, at leat 100 rotations, and it is not coming off. I've uploaded pics so you can see the apparatus. http://picasaweb.google.com/gregoryor/Dishwasher?feat=directlink

Thanks. The bolt turns easy enough, but I turn and turn and don't seem to make any progress. The arm has gotten wobblier, but still seems attached. I am turning the plastic bolt clockwise relative to the arm. That's right, isn't it? Should I try pulling up with a lot of force? Don't want to break anything though.

OK - got the arm off. I guess you need to pull up on the arm to engage the threads. I handed the task off to my kid, and he got it off in 2 seconds. Now we have removed the three star bolts, but don't know how to get the screen off. Haven't spent much time on it yet, though.

OK - got it. We had to remove the yellow flat feeder tube running up to the upper spray arm. Three of the screws were visible before that, but the 4th was hidden underneath that tube. Once we got that off, everything seemed to go smoothly.

I'm running a load right now to see if it helped. The funny thing is that the screen itself was totally clean. The only debris I found was a bunch of bones and toothpicks underneath the screen in a little crevice. Not sure what the crevice does, but I'm hoping that's where the water comes in, and the bones were just restricting the flow of water. I took pics during the reassembly, so will post them as a pictoral guide - IF my dishes come out clean.

    Thanks for the help, Maytag317!

Hi, In the center of the spray arm is a threaded piece of plastic/bolt.
Use pliers and turn that tab on the bolt. If it doesn't turn easy. Holt the bolt and try to turn the spray arm with you hand.
It will release the spray arm so you can remove it.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Is there screws on the outter edge of the screen? The picture I have is not very clear. Once all the screws are removed, the screen should lift off. You might need to use a flat blade and pry a little. Be careful not to punture the screen.

Kenmore ultra wash III portable dishwasher. Model #1765991. Lower wash arm came off. How do I re-attach?

Hello. The lower spray arm screws down onto the center, round, plastic part (spinner) that has threads on the center portion. It's very loose and spins easily because it uses the water spray to drive it. At the top of the threads, there will be a flat piece of plastic. Set the spray arm down onto the threads. Hold the flat plastic area that sticks out above the arm with pliers. Spin the spray arm counter-clockwise while holding the spinner. It will thread itself down about a turn or so. Snug firmly--DON'T OVER-TIGHTEN the spray arm onto the spinner. Remember, it only uses water pressure to spin so it doesn't have to be "gorilla tight"! I hope this helps you!

Happened on my dish washer too. Remove lower rack, remove lower spray arm by removing the center plastic nut, check screws (torx) on outside edge of pump. Tighten these as necessary, mine were loose causing water to spray forward against the tub causing leakage.

How do i remove cover on food chopper? kenmore 665 the problem is top shelf dishes not getting clean. looking to clean out bottom area, thanks

Hold the lower spray arm hub (plastic bolt spray arm connects to) and turn the lower spray arm counter clockwise to remove it.
Using a torx bit, remove the 4 screws and the top cover. Remove the screws for the lower cover and the chopper cover. Insert a flat screwdriver it into the clip of the chopper cover to pull it up easier.
Unless there are alot of "foreign objects" in that area, be prepared to replace the chopper, the motor and/or sump assembly.

I have a kenmore 665 dishwasher where the spary arms do not spin.

  • First, check water level. Start machine, wait until the machine begins main wash. Open the door, the water level should be just below the heater element. If too low replace inlet valve.
  • If you can't hear the wash motor running or is just humming, the motor may be bad.
  • To check if the food chopper is blocked or broken;
  1. Remove lower spray arm by holding the arm and rotating the spray arm retainer.
  2. In the back of the tub, unclip or remove the screw from the upper spray arm supply tube.
  3. Rotate the lower spray arm support to the right while disconnecting the supply tube from it.
  4. Remove the four torx screws from the sump cover, remove assembly.
  5. There may be a primary filter in the left side of the sump, if so, remove the torx screw and the filter.
  6. On the right side there is the chopper assembly cover. Remove the torx screw and cover to expose the chopper.

Hope everything goes well for you,

Regards

Richard

Kenmore Elite Ultra Wash Dishwasher - top rack arm not spinning

Hi: I just posted a similar problem, but found a solution. After taking the arm, etc. apart (and verifying no blockages), I thought maybe the lack of water pressure was being caused by the fact that there are TWO holes for the top spray arm (higher and lower rack setting) on my model. ie. that water was being forced out of both holes, causing a drop in water pressure, which was causing the top spray arm to stop spinning. I plugged the unused hole with a wine bottle cork (to keep the water from spraying out the unused hole), and voila, it now works.

I wish all appliance fixes were this easy...!

Whining noise with Kenmore 16032 dishwasher

I had a similar issue, I removed the lower spray arm (had to hold center plastic tab with pliers and then unscrewed and lifted up the arm). Then I removed the cover with the screen filter(4 screws) and then removed the top half of the stainless chopper housing (1 screw). Found that things like cherry pits, elastic bands, bread plastic ties had blocked the water inlet to the chopper and the area around the chopper blade. Cleaned it all up, reassembled and machine works great! Mine was so blocked that I was hardly getting any water pressure to the upper rack.

Kenmore Ultra Wash 3 Leaking

Got a possible solution from a brilliant guy named Jake on another website and thought I would post it back here.

"Check the door vent on the inner side of the door, that should just snap out, I have seen those clog and start making more pressure inside to make it leak from the bottom. Jake"

I checked mine and got a nasty surprise. Who knew it could get so dirty.

Need to remove wash module

You should be able to hold the spray arm and unscrew the center section to remove the entire assembly. Be aware of any washers or other parts that need to be re-installed when putting it back on.
