Question about Technics SL-BD22 Turntable

SL-BD22 Stops as you move in the tone arm

I'm looking at buying a used SL-BD22 and when I went to test it out, picking up the tone arm to start the turntable, it stops just as you position the tone arm over the turntable. Is there a sensor that only allows it to keep running if there's a record on the turntable? Or is this a piece of junk that will only cause future frustrations...

I am not particularly familiar with this model but if you have to have a disk on the turntable in order for it to run (a safety for stylus protection perhaps) why not just put on a disk and see? This feature would be a fairly complex one (photosensor perhaps) and I would not expect to see it on an inexpensive piece. Likely as not this has to do with a switch inside probably activated by a cam wheel (used in the raising of the arm at the end and returning the arm to rest) that is not set right. This cam or some link to it may have a problem which need to be addressed. All this I grant is speculation which would become clear if I saw the unit but unfortunately that is not an option. As to whether its a piece of junk, I wouldn't buy it unless I thought I could make it work. Paying any real amount of money to another to fix it makes little sense to me.

Why tone arm stuck?

Depends on stuck , i think that i see often with you g dj's and then dirt is the problem and no maintenanance , if you cannot use your height adjustment any more, take the whole unit outand try very thin only , WITHOUT a lot of force to gebtle move it both ways , is very gentle stuff and the problem is often that they've pushed it the wrong side. Number two, the hair heater gently warm it 10 minutes(gloves) ans that will do the the trick and whem loose emediatialy clean and use good lubricant(not to thin), but when you wanna buy a table and the heightadjustment is jammed, it is a bad onr.....runnnnn

Tone arm on technics Sl-BD22 lifts before the end of an album

the anti-skate is set wrong, this stops the arm skatting on to the label in the middle of the record & destroying your stylus tip.

Turntable wont spin

If everything seems ok with the power , there is usally a small microswitch that sends power to the motor when the tone arm is moved to the start of the record.
The switch might be bad or the lever that actuates it (connected to the tone arm) might be sticking. You may have to take the bottom cover off or remove the platter to see it.
Also make sure the belt is looped over the motor shaft. If the motor runs but the belt still doesnt turn, belt might be bad.

The tone arm will not drop on our Technics sl-dd33 turntable.

Have you left the tone arm lift in the up position?
If not: At the end of a record the mechanism lifts the tone arm, returns it to the rest, lowers it and switches off the motor.
It the motor has stopped too early, the tone arm will remain raised.
You can try gently rotating the platter clockwise by hand. This may allow the return cycle to finish.
