I have a Kodak cx4200 digital camera that won't turn on. It hasn't been used for at least six months and I discovered that it had wrong batteries in it. Now it seems to be dead. Help!

Remove the batteries and clean the battery contacts inside the camera with a soft cloth (a heavy buildup on the contacts may require cleaning with a fine wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that the cleaning leaves in the camera, and then reinstall the batteries. This clears most power-on problems, but if yours persists, check the Kodak troubleshooting guide at:

This problem is frequently due to either weak/worn out batteries or corroded battery terminals inside the
camera. If charging/replacing the batteries doesn't clear the problem, remove the batteries and wipe the terminals with a soft cloth
(heavy corrosion may require a fine wire brush, steel wool, or
sandpaper). Remove any residue left in the camera by the cleaning.
Clean the terminals on the batteries in the same manner, and then
replace them in the camera. This cures most problems, but if it
doesn't work for you, check the Kodak troubleshooting guide at:

If you really left the batteries alone for 6 years without regularly charging them, they won't work anymore. I still have two KLIC 500 batteries from Kodak, which I bought in 2005, Both are in very good condition, because the both get a charge every 3 months, even in periods I did not use my camera.
You could try. charging the batteries several times, but don't have to high expectations.

Kodak c340 won't turn on

Hello Carol, Are these batteries new and name brand ? It sure sounds like low battery power, Those cheap batteries found in some stores do not have the energy to boot a camera even when new out of the package. The camera has a very high demand to start up. I own several cameras that will not turn on with brand new cheap batteries.
Best Regards, Russell

You can use any "AA" batteries, just make sure to use a fresh set.

Other options:

optional camera dock with Ni-MH rechargeable battery pack (in-camera charging); 2AA lithium or Ni-MH batteries or 1 CRV3 lithium battery, 3 volt adapter

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as the free program Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Scrap the camera! Kodak hasn't and won't address the problem. Most picture download software won't recognize the camera. The only solution is to remove the memory card from the camera, put it in USB adapter and treat it like a flash drive. Cumbersome. Awkward. Stupid. After you scrap the ****, tell your friends so they don't make the mistake of buying a Kodak.
