have a Sony KP-51HW40 television. Here is the problem the TV will not come on and then flicker blue then the TV will turn itself off. The red standby light blinks 8 times , then off, then repeats the pattern.
Can you help me with this? Is it worth fixing? I spent $350 about a year ago having it tuned up and it's been working great.

Please reply I noticed a few people with the same problem and I couldn't find your reply.

    Thanks

    Tony

My TV did the same thing, except it flashed red instead of blue and powered off. Followed by the power light flashing eight times. What is an HV block?

Ship to Sony, tell them it is a junk.

Sony should stay in the entainment business, Samsang is getting its share of TV buniness. I junked all my Sony TVs, never buy a Sony product again.

I spoke with a technician yesterday. I live in Quebec. He told me that he fixed this problem a lot but now it's impossible to find the blue and green tube needed to fix the problem. Some red tube are still available. So basically my Sony TV is now plastic and glass junk. There's hope for those with an extended garantie because they give you a new TV cause it's unfixable. Good luck. Too bad Sony doesn't do anything about this. I'll never buy Sony again...

I just had my tv looked at. My problem was red. The repair man said that it was the red tube and he suggested replacing the red, green, and blue.

Gave me a quote of $1000. I just bought a plasma 50" for $1350.

I'm trying to find a home for it now. It was a great tv but not worth getting it fixed.

Wavy horizonal disturbance in picture

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms
  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.

The Vertical output ic is bad la7832 also has an open resistor in power supply off of pin 7 the ic.
Root cause is probably the zener diode next to the IC itself MTZJ75

Sony 65 inch screen tv

The lines you saw, i;m sure they are the ones called retrace lines but know the failure could be located on the red CRT board. Most likely the video amplifier is defective and not necessarily the CRT.
What is the model number of your TV?
