Make sure the new power supply is connected properly. main connector goes into the mtherboard and the p4 connector has to be connected to the motherboard as well. Make sure those are the only two connectors conntected for now. OF course make sure the cpu and the memory are properly inserted as well. Then go ahead and turn on the computer and see if you get video or the blinking light. Make sure the power supply on the back of it is set to 115v.

The small square plug should have black and yellow wires and should be connected to the motherboard, also the big plug should be connected to the motherboard aswell.

If you've replaced the power supply and it is still not turning on, then whatever blew out your power supply also took the motherboard with it. Your motherboard will have to be replaced. Please note, that it is possible that other components attached to your motherboard was blown as well but you won't be able to tell until you replace the motherboard. It is usually better at this point to replace the computer.

Sounds like a burnt motherboard to me. Replace with similar MB that has same socket for processor and same slots for RAM. A decent MB will run you about $40-70 as long as it isn't a gaming system or something.

Will not start

smor4u,

There is no reset or fuse to reset. You may need to get replacement power supply. If the computer is plugged into a power strip or surge protector you can bypass it and plug the system directly into a wall outlet and power up.
Power Supply Light-on the back of the computer.
The light is a Green Light by the power supply.
Power Supply light is lit by a signal in the power supply called Power_Good (PG).
If the Power Supply Light Led is not light up, the power supply is defective.
If you need to replace the power supply you can contact the Dell Spare Parts Department at 1-877-717-3355bsat4ube4gblqiaaaaasuvork5cyii= or click the link below.

Optiflex sx280 does not start.

Fans working? Maybe a PSU failure? Replace CMOS Battery. Reseat/replace Memory Mods. It's getting a bit old. Hard to say with a older computer thing start to go one by one. I replaced a PSU after 7 years. CMOS battery dead, replaced, Then the Sound Failed, new sound card. etc. I stripped it of useful parts and sent it out into the world.

AstGateway DX4200-UB001A Desktop power light blink off and on

If the power light is blinking on and off it means that there is a problem with the power supply of the computer. This will need to be replaced. You could try unplugging all hard drives and CD-DVD drives inside the computer and see if it will power on. Otherwise you will need a new Power Supply.

I cannot detect any problem with the computer other than the power lights continues to blink amber and white. Help.

If the power light is blinking Amber or Yellow, your power supply is no good. You can purchase a new power supply either online at places like http://www.tigerdirect.com or you can take your whole computer into a store like bestbuy and ask them to show you power supplies that will work with your computer.

If you are unsure on how to replace your power supply, I would suggest taking it to someone that will install it properly.

There are also a lot of videos out there like this one:

http://video.about.com/pcsupport/powersupply.htm

That show you how to do it yourself. Just make sure all the power connections are connected or you might have devices that dont' work properly.

Have a great day.

I'm not clear about the blinking amber light you are referring to. Is it on the computer or the monitor.
I checked Dell's web site for the service manual for this computer model, & found this document:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim8300/sm/adtshoot.htm#1102195

If the blinking amber light is on the monitor, check the connection between it & the computer itself. Make sure the cable is not damaged & that it does not have any broken pins in the socket.

Power doesn't turn on

NO! Do not buy a new motherboard or pc without checking some things.

First, is the green light you say is blinking on the Power Supply itself?

If it is, then the power supply is dead. A blinking light on a PSU means that it can no longer hold a charge and needs to be replaced. Get a new one and pop it in.

If the power box is bad, The computer will not come on. if you only get a green light, you would need to start with replaceing the power box, if you get a new one and the same thing happens, then the mother board is bad too.
