Yes. This is due to Google changing their default search page to secure mode (note the https). If you are using Google Chrome or Internet Explorer, you can set your home page to be https://www.google.com and the ?gws_rd=ssl won't show any more. If you are using Firefox then it will show regardless, but no harm will be done.

How do I make google my home page

Hello.

To make Google your homepage, you must select the entire Google URL (https://www.google.co.uk/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=kfH1VImdNIeFOuz_gagI&gws_rd=ssl) and then drag that URL to the homepage icon located on your Internet Browser.

Google may also ask you if you want to set it as your homepage, you simply say Yes.

I want Google as a home page

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet options, and ensure that the General tab is clicked. Enter the following into the Homepage box: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl (Note: Google now uses a more secure link now instead of the previous http://www.google.com )

I want to make Google my default browser

If you're using Internet Explorer browser, click on theTools (menu item) ... and at the bottom of the drop-down window, click on "Internet Options". A (smaller) window will open, showing under the General (tab) ... your current home page. Simply edit (or add) into that (top HOME PAGE) window,www.google.com then, click on APPLY at the bottom right corner.

Now when you open your Internet Explorer (browser), it will go directly to google.com.

If you use the Mozilla Firefox browser, you'll want to click on the "Tools" menu item. A (smaller) "OPTIONS" window will open. Click on "General" and you will see the (current) STARUP Home Page URL address. Simply add/replace that with www.google.com and click on OK.

Now when you open your Mozilla Firefox (browser), it will go directly to google.com.
