How to repair a leaky pre-fab shower stall

Have a three sided shower stall, glass door and glass sides that has started leaking water out of the bottorm where the glass is installed into the chrome holders. Second time it has happened. First time had to have the company installers install a new shower because they said builder didn't install it correctly. $900. Now after over a year it is leaking again, Warrenty over. Glass is inserted into chrome holders in some type of vinyl seal. Water comes out of rubber seal on the outside. Worked ok for a year. Water is supposed to run back inside through weep slots. I checked slots and they are clear. All caulking is in good shape

SOURCE: Interior Carpet Getting Wet

It sounds like a plugged drain line from the air conditioner. Most cars now run in the a/c mode whenever u turn on the climate control (even when heat is on). The passenger side front is where it would be wet, and the carpet and carpet pad act like a sponge and will soak up the water. Let me know how u make out.

SOURCE: Spartan brand curved glass shower door installation info needed.

curved cut glass will not always be the exact dimensions though they may look identical there should be several set screws on both the door glass frame and the shower glass frame that can be loosened and reset to make the door fit and close and open more properly without seeing the showwer itself i can not tell you exactly where they are but they should be either visible or behind a facade piece of metal frame

SOURCE: walk in shower leak into room below

Water leaks into room below most likely is caused by water ingress from damaged caulking between tiles.

For big water leaks, better look for other root causes. For example, my walk-in shower room wall installed with 4 Hangsgrohe bodyspray heads (BODYSPRAY, AKTIVA, ITEM SKU: 28451821). These bodyspray shutoff valve is independent of shower head shutoff valve. So shower head works fine. But when bodyspray shutoff valve is turned on, water leaks heavily like waterfall into below living room. I cut out wet damaged sheetrock of the ceiling from the living room and found the leak was from one of the 4 spray heads. Overhauling the suspected bobyspray turned out its coupling was loose and nozzle holes was partially blocked by calcium buildup, which caused water to go back into the wall. It's considered design defect as the bobyspray coupling may lose once got whacked for whatever reason.

I would like information on steps to remove bathtub and install pre fab shower

This is a fairly big job but can be done if you have the right tools and a little bit of time....... Depending on the existing tub material (cast iron, fiberglass, tin type ). You will want to remove faucet trim(handles, spout) first. Then the over flow plate on tub,as well as drain in the bottom (this will require a drain removal wrench or pair of needle nose pliers and screw driver, and some strong arms). After this is done remove tub unit , if the unit is a cast iron unit a good sledge hammer will work as you will need to break into halves to remove unless your trying to save tub and provided you can then get the unit out the door in one piece...... Caution, protect body and eyes in this process, flying pieces of cast iron can do some damage to body......cutting tub will take several blades and take quite a while to do......The next step depends on the location of faucet and if you are replacing the tub faucet or going to use the existing faucet.... I would recommend a new faucet because if this is going to be a shower only you may want to raise the faucets so they will be easy to operate without having to bend..Depending on the model pre-fab (two piece, three piece) unit you wish to install you may need to prep the drain to make sure it will fit your new installation. Let me explain... most tubs have the drain located at the right/left end of tub and the showers are located in the center of the unit thus leaving you to relocate the drain. If house is on slab it means a little jack hammering the concrete to provide this, if the floor is a conventional it means re-routing the drain to the center.......once all this is accomplished you are ready to install unit base, connecting drain. Next you need to get the faucet located to the right height or be able to get to the back side of the shower and remove the existing faucets and replace them after you install surround.....turn off water supply before removing faucet..... A sturdy surround will make for a less involved support system around shower area.Be sure to leave enough space between studs for faucet attachment. Sounds like a lot of work and it is but after its done you will have a great bath shower..... hope this was helpful.... sorry this only dealt with the plumbing aspects of the job......

I replaced an Moen spout for my shower unit. Water flows thru the Spout and when level is pulled water flows thru the shower head. But there is water leak somewhere (reverse flow?). The ceiling below it...

if you have copper piping, you probably twisted the pipe when, you tightened the spout ,and broke pipe. If you are'nt able to get into the wall on the shower side, cut a hole on the other side of shower wall to repair it.

Shower stall in master bath of a 15 yr old home. the shower started having water problems after about 1 year, leaking water onto the drywall next to the stall. we have tried everything-recalking, sealing...

Did you use plastic pipe? What about the shower head? Does it have a rubber o-ring in it? Pull the pipe out of the wall at the shower head and peek inside for the o-ring. If it is there, just snug up the pipe, do not over tighten. We were ready with crow bars in hand to destroy a brand new shower we just finished, because we thought we had w broken pipe, Then the owner says he torqued up the shower head as tight as he could and I read where it had to be just finger tight. One more place to check is the faucet itself, take off the trim ring and look in there for drips. It could be filling up the wall cavity and stay wet for days. I would take apart the drywall on the other side before busting up the tile again. Check it out.

Frameless shower door sticking to the opposite wall when closing

you can fix this problem by loostening the clamp screw and putting locktite sealer(you can purchase locktite from hd or lowes locktite is not the only product you can call a glass supplier and as for recommendation) Be sure to read the directions on the tube I use it to seal joints on refrigeration threaded parts. Make sure it will adhere to glass and metal also review the clean up solvent when you do this place a wood wedge at the bottom of the glass dooor and the threashold to support he weight until the sealer driese

Steps

1 Place wood wedge/block under door where non hinged side meets wall

2 losten top hinge(inspect bottom hinge to make sure it is snug and the glass dor is all the way into the hinge

3 You may have to remove the top hinge completely to get enough of the locktite on the metal and glass place the locktite on the hinge flat plate and the glass

4 recheck gap where door meets wall( I sometimes use paint stirs(wood) as shims to keep space between door and wall consistent

5 tighten top inge screws( you can put locktite on the screw threas also

6 Clean excess locktite and wait suggested time by instructions on tube

Good Luck!

Leaking rubber seals

Ryan,

I had the same problem on my wife's 2000SLK, took it to the dealer, they did a water pressure test in this area, charging me $80.00 and came up with nothing. Upon my further investigation, I discovered that there is a drain built into the rubber seal at the top of the windshield, in the corner where the top of the door glass meets that rubber seal on the driver's side. look carefully and you will see three small holes in the rubber seal at the top of the windshield and a larger triangular shaped depression in the corner, this is a "catch-basin" drain that runs all the way down the side of the rubber gasket along the end of the "A" pillar emptying in the space in front of the door, then onto the ground. First I cleaned out the triangular catch basin carefully with a small flat bladed screw driver, then used compressed air to blow out the drain. Blow out the three small holes also. This procedure worked for me. Do the same on the passenger side. Good Luck!
