Loud motherboard fan on Dell Dimension 9100

My motherboard fan on my Dell 9100 Dimension is running at high speed, loudly. I replaced it with a new one, but I have the same problem, at the recommendation of a computer techie friend. Is there something else in the are of the fan that could be causing the noise?

The noise if from the fan running loudly. It attaches with 2 screws, and blows onto the motherboard. It kicks out a lot of air, but has simply become very loud.

Hmmm, possibly. Come to think about it, this problem started shortly after I replaced the battery.

To much voltage coming from the motherboard which is why its running loudly, the ic's on the motherboard aren't controlling the amount of voltage coming into the fan which is why its running loudly. I would suggest another motherboard but I know they can be costly.

The other thing I would suggest though before the motherboard is try a different power supply cause that could be putting out to much voltage and also swap out the CPU could it could be not receiving the information properly and causing an overload.

Depends on the noise. Rattling: Ensure that all cables are out of the way and not touching the blades. Loud screaching noise: replace the fan immediately. now when you say mother board fan is it inbuilt?

I have dell 3300mp,when I turn the power on it makes a very loud noise. It does not make the sound in standby or cool down. It does work and display a signal okay, but it is very loud. Sound like a fan?,...

The main fan that cools the lamp is mostly high speed when the unit is running. when it shuts down it slows the fan down, until it stops in standby. So the noise is only really loud when it is showing a picture.

try setting the fan to eco mode (slower running) and see if the noise is acceptable. If it is still too loud then you will have to replace it. Have a look at the fan and see if any of the plastic blades are missing.

some fans are just loud, they tend to speed up and get louder when the computer heats up, it keeps it from over heating... if it always runs hard and loud the internal thermostat could not be working right.

Dell dimension 8400 fan runs at high speed upon power on

Check if the capasitors on the motherboard are "swollen" which would mean the motheroard is KAPUT. Check if there is a modem in the PCI slots which often shorts the motherboard (when it has become faulty) ... remove the modem. Try booting again. If not succesfull make sure the POWER SUPPLY workls correctly by replacing it with another working one..... If no joy... there are still one or two other options. Let me know If you still have a problem and I will give you more options to check on

Processer fan comes on high speed at start up and monitor is dark

Hi there, you might be lucky
The dell dimension has a feature for diagnosing problems
on the back of the pc right beside the network port RJ11 are four lights if the pc is fine then they all go green, if there is a problem then they will show yellow or not light up at all please check these and get back to me.
The light on the front with the (battery icon) is actually the hard drive activity light, meaning that the hard drive is being constantly accessed may be important will know more from the lights.
