Had a similar problem running windows XP, it couldn't read my sandisk SD card on a usb sandisk imagemate reader/writer. The solution on Microsoft's site was worthless, having already applied all XP patches. Fortunately, I tried accessing the SD card under windows 2000 and it worked fine, so I formatted the SD card in windows 2000 and now it works fine in XP.

1. Go into the menu and scroll to "reset"...follow the on-screen instructions.
2. With the memory card out of the camera, go into the menu and scroll to "format"...follow the on-screen instructions.
3. If the pictures from the card are safely on your computer, format the card in the camera.
4. Be sure the slide switch on the side of the card is in the unlocked position.
Testimonial: "Thanks for your help. The SD card is working sometimes now.If I remove & return the card sometimes it doesn't recognise it again. But working better now"

This usually indicates that you are trying to use 'newer' SDHC High Capacity cards of 4GB or more. Older and cheaper units like this Vivicam 5024 unfortunately may be limited to 2Gb 'standard' SD cards.
Hope it helps: let me know what cards you are trying to use.

For Genius G-Shot HD55 you need to insert the SDHC card deeper into the slot until it clicks closed, like opening a pen, then when you want to remove it press it again until it clicks to release, like closing a pen. Your card is recognised after the deep click insertion and restarting the camera.
