I have a Maytag 2000 series front loading washing machine that just stopped on the last minute of normal cycle and now will not unlock. I unplugged it and tried all the different cycles. Nothing happens and the door remains locked.
Try putting it through another cycle and see if it is still going to stay locked. That would seem like a timer problem. The door should only be locked normally, as I see it, when there is power applied to the locking solenoid so it should not remain locked with no power. You might call a maytag dealer and ask a sales or service person about this also.

The door will not open if the machine detects excess water in it. Run the drain or spin cycle to check if water is being expelled. If necessary check the pump filter for obstructions and the outlet hose for blockages. If this does not work you may have a problem with the pressure system, the door lock itself or a crack or break in the handle and it is not catching the lock mechanism, let me know if this helps or if you need further assistance.

Look for the 2 buttons on your that have a lock symbol. Pushing & hold both for 3 seconds. This toggles the child proof mode.

I had a similar problem...with the added issue of the door not locking at all. I cleaned the filter and all is well. However, it took me hours to find the 3 screws everyone was talking about The screws are at the very bottom of the washer, under the lip, facing front. If your machine sits on a pedestal drawer like mine, they are located between the machine and the pedestal. I hope these pics save someone a little time...

This worked for me. I turned off the washer and hit the area on the washer directly to the right of the door handle (not hard enough to break something or cause a dent). It popped right open.
