My Proscan PS56670 just started doing the same thing. After it warms up(about 20 min) the screen changes to a "fisheye look" Sounds similiar to what you are describing.

its the most common problem on that tv set. IC chip or the "thingy that controls the beams" the chip you need to fix it, is STV2040T1 its under the shiny tin looking box on the right side near the back of the TV. NOT hard at all to replace, problem is FINDING the chip. Hong Kong says it was discontinued in 2007... I have had NO luck tracking it down, if anyone knows where to find... I'd appreciate it. I tried they have everything BUT that chip it would seem.

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Proscan PS50700 Convergence Problem - 42d3683.jpg

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence youProscan PS50700 Convergence Problem - 69189a5.pngix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

what you don't tell is how to go to the settings menu, I go to the manu button, and only takes me to : audio, picture quality, set up , etc, I click everyone of them and do not see the option of "convergence" or even option for separate colors as Blue, red or green.I can follow instructions but my menu does not show what you mention, maybe I need to click other thing than MENU ?

Image is double like ghosts with a greenish/redish color

Not a lamp as this model (one listed) uses 3 picture tubes--likely a convergence problem--see typical in attached photo.

This set does but rarely have this problem---take a careful look on back where model number is at and look for chassis number--is it a PTK195 or what? That chassis had one easy fix for this problem.

No, and it is not real easy to get into the advanced convergence menu to do it. A a question: on rear of set aside from model number is there a chassis number like PTK195?

I was just given this t.v because friends couldn't figure out what is wrong with itl. The colors don't line up right, looks kinda blurry depending on the lighting of the program being watched. How do i fix...

According to the manual:
1) go to the "TV Main Menu"
2) Select "Screen"
3) Select Adjust Projection TV (obviously only if a projection TV).
This then allows you to adjust the TV's 3-colors. Selecting GREEN CENTERING brings up a control panel that lets you center the green projection tube on the screen. Selecting RED CONVERGENCE or BLUE CONVERGENCE lets you align the Red & Blue projector tubes. Centre the green projector tube 1st. Then adjust the red & blue until the test pattern on the TV screen appers white.
Good Luck!

My JVC model number AV-56WP30 has a flashing convergence screen

Your TV most likely has a Convergence Chip Failure but I have not seen that symptom before.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Rca p 52939 picture is warped and color is off someone said possible dcu failure

Sounds like you have nad solder connections on your convergence ICs. Locate the convergence board (usually a long narrow board) and resolder the convergence ICs. These run very hot and tend to loosen the factory solder, causing a lose of convergence (color being off) and geometry.

Sounds like the warped picture may be caused by the convergence output IC's, but try this first:
