Question about Dewalt 18 Volt Compact Drill Kit

1 Answer

I think the brushes are bad but I don't have a exploded view of the drill to know where to install the. It is a Dewalt 18 V. I runs with less power than when it was newer, maybe 50% less and there was some smoke?

Why has my dewalt 18 volt drill gone slow and less powerful? the batteries are fine on other tools

It sounds like the motor is going bad. You could also try to take it apart and clean and relubricate the gears and shafts whith grease.

I have a DeWalt DW927 cordless drill. It's lost

the brush assembly slides out of the back of the motor. I suggest going to and downloading a breakdown for this tool before starting. I don't think that the brushes are going to be your only problem though.

I have aa 18 volt Dewalt drill. When I put in a brand new battery with a full charge and run the drill, it discharges the battery in less than a minute. Is the motor shorted out?

I would have to think the motor, what does it sound like? Do you notice a burning odor, If you are not careful it might short out the new battery. Let me know and I will see what I can do

Hello, I have a dewalt drill cordless 12V. I have taken the casing off and want to know how I want to know how I get to the brushes. It has stopped working and suspect that it is the brushes. I am not...

I fix cordless DeWalt drills every week!Look for two black carbon-like blocks found on either side of the commutator ( the central spindle ) they will each have one wire on the outside end attached to a spade connector so the brush can be easily removed by prying it out from beneath the spring holding the brush against the commutator.  Then the wire can be removed and the new brush installed.    Go online to and search for your model dewalt drill. they have an exploded diagram and parts listing for each model drill.  That will identify the brush for you if you have never seen one before.    If the drill was operating intermittently with lots of noise and usually blue sparks coming out, loss of power, increasing intermittant operation it would almost certainly benefit from replacing the brushes.   If it is simply dead, and was ever dropped.  check the battery terminals and the trigger mechanism.  Of course inspect the battery and check inside the drill for loose or broken wires and connections. I hope this is helpful. Good luck!
