Is the captioning coming from a source such as a Sky box? If so, you need to switch off closed captions on the source box and not the TV.

SOURCE: turn on closed caption on samsung LA32S81B tv

If you don't have the manual, go to this website:

http://www.samsung.com/in/support/productsupport/download/FileView.aspx?cttfileid=1383390&type=TV&typecode=&subtype=LCD+TV&subtypecode=&cmssubtypecode=&model=LA32S81B&filetype=UM&language=&LSSI=/in/module/ssi/left/lmenu_tv_sonomatrenz.sec&RSSI=/in/module/ssi/right/rmenu_tv.sec

and download it. I think Samsung refers to it as Teletext. Instrucitons are on page 31 of this manual.

Good luck.

How do I enable closed captions on samsung smart TV?

Unfortunately, most TVs only support closed captions on the RF (OTA or analog cable without a set-top box) input. For other sources, the captions are enabled at the source device or app.

The Samsung Series 8 UA65TU8000KXXS does support some subtitled files from the USB drive. However, the support is limited to select subtitle and video formats. What is the format for these videos? See page 134 of the E-manual for details; the menu section on the subtitles is shown starting on page 222.

The manual for this model is available on the product page: https://www.samsung.com/sg/tvs/uhd-4k-tv/tu8000-65-inch-crystal-uhd-smart-tv-ua65tu8000kxxs/ . The current link to the manual is https://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/202208/20220802172628638/NIKDVBADT-3.2.0_EM_NIKE_ASIA_ENG_220110.0.pdf .

I hope this helps.

(VLC can support a number of caption file types. See https://www.rev.com/blog/resources/how-to-add-captions-and-subtitles-to-vlc-media-player-videos-and-movies . There is also a plugin that lets the program find subtitle files automatically. One or both of these is probably why the video captions work on VLC for Android.)

How do I get closed captioning?

According to the Samsung support website there is an option in the menu which is called "caption" which can be selected off or on.

This is a link to a copy of the manual.

Samsung UN65F6300AF manual

In the manual it says to select the onscreen menu and then ...

Subtitles

Screen Menu > Broadcasting > Caption Try Now

View subtitles along with subtitle-enabled digital and analog broadcasts.

Show Subtitles

Screen Menu > Broadcasting > Caption > Caption Try Now

Show subtitles. Subtitles will be displayed when you choose a broadcast that supports subtitles.
"" DVD Subtitles are only available when connected to an external input connector.

I have a 32 inch Upstar LED TV. How do I turn off closed captioning?

On the remote there is a button for Subtitles. Press that button and the Subtitles will disappear. If it is not on the remote then you have to find it in the TV's settings. 'Closed captions' are old words. We now call these 'Subtitles' and all TV's with remotes have a 'Subtitle' button. Look for it, then press while pointing the remote to the TV.

Can't turn closed caption off on our Samsung Series 7000 LED TV

Make sure it isn't your cable or satellite TV service making the captions, as closed captions on your TV are separate from the ones produced by your service provider. If it isn't your cable/ satellite, open the TV menu and find the Audio/Visual properties section of the menu (audio and visual might be separate sections), and find the closed captions or CC options menu. When you do just change the setting from whatever it is on, to off. If your TV remote is fancier than mine (which it probably is), their could possibly be a closed caption button on the remote for easy access. In this case just push the button and change what you need to.

Can't turn on closed captioning and subtitles

If it's only with some DVDs, then the problem likely lies in the DVD itself not containing any subtitles or CC.
