Question about HP Officejet 6310 All-In-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

I have Windows Vista Home Premium SP2. Somewhere over the past several weeks I had problems getting my HP Officejet 6310 All-In-One to scan into my computer properly. At one point I deleted all of my installed HP software and drivers for my printer and attempted to reinstall. I have followed the directions to the letter. Each time I try at step 3/4 I get an error message Fatal error during installation. The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package (oh by the way I even tried downloading the file again in cast there was a problem with the download) This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2753. http://www.hp.com/support Fatal error and MSIDOT4wrp.01 When it gathers the error log to send to HP it says X:hpzmsi.01.exe -m dot4wrp.01 -1 xxx -f x:DIVins??.dat X:CIOUM32.MSI failed with return code 1603 MSIInstall()failed with 1603 exit code 1603 This is all I have. Help? Dave

It's connected to my computer via a USB cable. Actually I started with an ethernet cable to the router but I just struggled getting the software to work and the HP technician said use the USB cable.

    Kevin,

I went through everything you asked me to. The printer is now on the router and I've tried to reinstall the software. I get the exact same problem with the error mentioned above. So nothing has changed.

I have the IP address for the printer.

The installation process doesn't go far enough for me to select the printer. The fatal error occurs and then the installation process stops completely.

So it doesn't matter if it's connect via USB or Ethernet. The software installation blows up at exactly the same place everytime with the 2753 error.

Also I want to be able to use my buttons on the printer to Scan To; The used to work in XP and now they don't work anymore. I don't want to have to do masking tape and bailing wire.

This printer is suppose to be Vista certified and all of these features should work with Vista.

I need to scan things into the computer to edit photo's or create PDF files.

If you can not address this then I would like my money refunded and I'll pick up the issue again with Microsoft or HP.

    Thank you
    Dave

Would like to get assistance from another person at this point. Kevin shared what he knew but it didn't address the problem I'm having with the Fatal Error coming up each time I try and install the HP Officejet 6310 All-In-One printer.

Hi there

I have the same printer running on the same Vista but I have it connected using its Ethernet port instead of USB cable. So it's attached to my network. How is yours connected? Let me know and I'll be able to help more specifically as I know this printer does work with Vista.

Best regards.

Thanks. I would highly recommend the Ethernet method. It gives less processor overhead and is much faster. In addition, you can print from any system on your network regardless if your main PC is turned off. If you are willing to try the network method again with me I can easily get it working for you. If you want to use the USB method let me know. For now, if you can use the network method, please do the following:

    1. Disconnect the USB cable

    2. Attach the Ethernet cable to the router

    3. Now you need to get the printer into DHCP mode. To do this, go through the menu of the printer itself until you find its network settings options. Then instead of putting in an IP address, find an option to use DHCP or automatically get an IP address. If you have never changed this settings before when you tried the network method, it's probably already in DHCP mode, so continue to step 4.

    4. Download the FULL HP software here (choose Download Only and save to desktop). The smaller software offered says it supports the network but I couldn't ever get it working. Only the big download works for me on all of my computers.

    5. Before installing it, remove all the HP printer/scanner software you installed previously.

    6. Now, ensure the printer is on, and install the full software downloaded, but choose custom installation and uncheck all of the additional software (only install the first one, the main driver software) and when it gets to the connection method page, choose network instead of USB.

    7. It will begin searching for the printer. It should find it after a while. When it does, make a note of the IP address the printer is using! Then you can say Next to finish off the installation.

    8. If you are prompted to restart, please do so (this is always true for me)

    9. After the restart it may complete some additional steps

Now for the scanning part. To access the scanner, you can use it's built-in scanning page. Open up your Internet browser, and in the address bar type in the IP address you noted in step 7. It will take you to the pages built into the printer.

From there, make sure your browser's popup blocked is turned off (or add the HP IP address into the exceptions list), and click on the Scan option. You can do your scans from here, and the scanned image will appear in a new window/tab. You can then right-click the image and save it to your desktop. Don't bother with the Preview option, it just wastes time in my opinion. Go straight for the scan after choosing the settings.

Now you may want to make a hostname for the printer before you exit the web page. That way you won't need to remember its new IP address everytime you turn it on. Just go to the Networking tab at the top and set a host name. You can then use that in your browser address bar or create a shortcut to get to it quickly.

Hope this is of some help.

    Best regards.

Sorry, I was only trying to be helpful.

As the installation still does not go without the error occurring, the closest information I can find regarding the error comes directly from HP here. Hope this is of some help.

    Best regards

Option one: Scan using Windows Fax and Scan
  1. Click the Windows icon (c01319360.gif ), click Programs , and then click Windows Fax and Scan .
NOTE: The Windows Fax and Scan option is available in the Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions of Windows Vista. If you have the Home Basic or Home Premium edition of Windows Vista, skip to Option two: Scan using Paint .

Fax services not available from Computer

I work with Hp
It is not that you cant fax from the solution centre
but the fact that windows vista has an updated version of the registry which
will not allow faxing from the pc unless you have windows Vista ultimate.
Im not trying to blame Microsoft instead of Hp but I have taken calls where customers cannot fax using hp solution centre in vista and I started checking the registry and there is one component in Windows Vista Ultimate that is present which willl allow you to fax but This same registry entry is not there in other Windows Vista's.
That is why I prefer using windows Xp rather to Darn Vista

HP Officejet 6310 All-in-one Scanning issues

I believe u have Vista. There is a known issue with Vista. The drivers in the Windows Vista operating system do not support button press functionality on the product. There is a workaround documented on the HP site. I had the same problem and this KB article helped me resolve it.

Need to kinow if hp officejet v series is compatable with windows vista on my laptop? Can I install it on my pc?

Yes, I checked several models and they all had Vista drivers and software.
Go to this page :
http://h10061.www1.hp.com/ccsearch/search?pname=officejet+v&opname=HP+Officejet+6310+All-in-One+Printer&qry=compatability&method=prodFinder&enc=UTF-8&ctry=us&lang=en&dlc=en&sni=1119598&search=0&submit.x=0&submit.y=0

And select your model. then on the next page , click on Product support home, which will be under the picture of the printer. Then select the version of Vista.( you probably have Vista 32bit) Download and install.
You may have to copy and paste the link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
