it's saying do not disconnect because it's connect to the pc and it's charging the batteries . try reinstalling your iTunes and check if APPLE MOBILE DEVICE SERVICE is active in your Programs and Resourses menu or in MSCONFIG ( Start > Run > Msconfig > Services (or initialization) .
