Formatting card when i try formatt the compact flash card(san disk) i get a error 99? why?

    just bought a XTi attempted format CF card get err 99. Camera says that the CF card is bad. tried a second card smae results

ERR99 is a default error code in the Rebel.

There are a number of things you can try...

Remove your battery and the memory card and let it sit for a little bit to reset. Put them back in and check it then.

Also try cleaning your lens contact points,(the gold metal contacts on the lens and the camera body) with a clean pencil eraser.

If you can, try testing another lens with your camera, that often works, which may mean it is a contact point or lens compatibility error.

I think thats the code for the shutter, its no good i can check on monday and post again cant remember right now there are alot of codes that we have

USUALLY the ultra and high density flash cards have trouble working in most music equipment.

Only buy the cards up to 2 Gb and verify compatibility with one of them before buying more.

San Disk 2GB is saying it's full when it still has plenty of room
I didn't understand you weren't using it for photography. Here some more suggestions:

* Double check the SD card's Write Protection Switch to make sure it is unlocked.
* If your card reader is old it may need to be replaced. See if the card works properly in your camera. If you hook your camera to your MAC with its USB cable you should be able to upload and download files.

Bent/broken card reader pins. Take a flash light and look inside the card reader. There you'll see two rows of pins, 1or 2 will be bent (common problem).

Nikon D70, displaying error code 'CHA' when memory card inserted. Unable to format or use memory card. Have tried new memory card, still same problem.
CHA errors indicate a communication issue with the CF card. Your card could be going bad, you could have a broken pin, or any number of other problems.

I'm running into this same problem now. If anyone has a good step-by-step to troubleshoot which of the dozen things this error could be, I'd appreciate it.

For myself, I'm planning to start by trying a new CF card.

Since your card is password protected,computer will not recognize it..so remove the password and then try it will work..
