How to utilize the windows xp media

This notebook has windows xp media which lead me to believe I couId capture video from my video camera or as well as other media. However there is no fire wire port or does this notebook have a slot for cards to add anything of such. Is there any way to use a firewire?
also does this notebook have any video output lines to hook up to TV? I cant find any. Well I guess This is why it was so cheap.

Well it is not really old it is almost a year old. only really cheap. There is not any PCMCIA slots anywhere on this notebook. I even called to find if there was one hidden somewhere they checked the manual and confirmed no slot. Just checked manual seems only a S video jack. so my question is there any other way to connect fire wire if you do not have a PCMIA slot?

You can buy a PCMCIA firewire slot card to slot in the side of your laptop, but there should be a vga connector at the rear of the unit unless it is really old.

I cant find my webcam programme in the system.i cant start the webca itself.

The Sony Notebook computers are shipped either with the Arcsoft WebCam Companion or the VAIO Camera Capture Utility.
1. Click on start, in the search bar type, Webcam Companion or VAIO Camera Capture Utility to find what is shipped.
2. If both are missing, then check if the drivers are installed for teh camera in device manager.
Press the Windows logo+R keys together to open Run Window.
3. In the Run Window, type "devmgmt.msc" without quotes and press the enter key.
4. In the device manager window, check if Imaging Devices is listed and has the Sony Visual Communication Camera driver installed.
5. If that is missing then, install the respictive software i.e; Webcam Comapnion or the Visual communination driver and camera capture utility.
You can install the drivers from the Sony support home page.

I could have provided the link if there would have been the exact model # of the notebook provided by you.

However, if the software is installed, then follow the steps to use the cam with VAIO Camera Capture Utility from the below link.

Hi cadijah495,

You can use the VAIO Camera Capture Utility Software installed in the Computer to capture images and record Videos. You can access the VAIO Camera Capture Utility from "Start", "All Programs", VAIO Camera Utility and clicking the VAIO Camera Capture Utility.

If the Application is not available in your Computer, you can re-install it from the below link.

Please open the above link in a new web browser window to download the file. Then, please save the file on the Desktop. After that, please double click on the downloaded file to begin the installation. After installing the file, please restart the Computer for the settings to take the effect.

Hope this helps.

Sony Vaio Motion Eye

First find your VAIO Camera capture utility and configure it to see both your webcam and your microphone/ to do this if VAIO Camera Capture Utility is not in your start list of programs, Click on start in the space search "VAIO Camera" without the quotes. it should bring up the VAIO camera capture utility. Click on it/when it opens click on settings/ click on the Cam/mic tab and choose Sony Visual Communications Camera in the drop down under preferred Camera/ Do the same for your Preferred Microphone/ click OK/Now click the little red x in the far upper right of the VAIO Camera Capture utility to close it. Now in your chat software either Windows live chat or Yahoo chat or whichever one you have. I have Windows live chat/ configure your video in there as well to use your motion eye and your microphone. You should now be able to chat live seeing and hearing your guest as long as they have the same chat program.Do a search on google for "Windows Live Messenger" if you wish to use that utility to chat with. If you choose Windows Live Messenger, in the main window click on tools/ click on "Audio and Video Setup".

Unable to tansfer video to computer using DV cable..

Pinnacle software will recognize the camera installed through a firewire cable once the camera is turned on. Windows movies software doesn't recognize DV cameras. You may be able to get capture to work if you go to and download the Windows Media 9.0 Development Kit. I believe DV input is a capture option.

There has to be a 3rd party program installed to get it to recognize it.

Good luck on that.
