How long should the compressor stay on? mine stays on for (5) minutes,then stays in fan-mode

Actually, for heating mode, the condenser fan works on pressure build up by Fan pressure Switch. If pressure less the fan won't run.

I would return it as it sounds like part of the circuit is defective.
Anything like this should have built-in Historesis - so it will wait untill a limit is reached before turning on, but also turn off at a lower limit to prevent this wasteful short-cycling.

Your not alone with this problem.
I had to fix mine. The warranty is less than impressive.
The trouble is going to be the Power Supply/Backlight Inverter board.

This is board # BA71F0F01042. Replacement boards are hard to come by.
Fixing the board like I did seem to be the only option. If you need info on fixing it, let me know.

does it do this when on battery mode?
or when its plugged in?
i found they do tend to drain quicker the older it gets and that just because of a week internal battery.. i just leave mine plugged in to the cig lighter in my car and i dont have that problem but if you have to use battery power it will drain fast no real fix unless you get a new internal battery and its much easier to just leave it plugged in.

how many amp service do you have in the house

digital cameras have always "eaten" batteries. tho there may be an internal defect in the camera i would suggest purchasing a good set of rechargale batteries and charger for them.

First turn it to cool and see how cold the big cooper line is if it is not real cold you could be low on freon but if it is cold your compressor is bad

Check for the correct voltage intake the capacitor needs to be replaced as its a very old ones need to be replaced by new one.

I had the same issue. Replaced the lamp and now mine is working. Normally this is a sign that the bulb is out, however - I would say now that either:
1. Your lamp is defective.  2. The balast in your TV is defective.
