    I found the problem!

Looking closer and gently tugging on the wires, I realized that they were simply burend off from the sta con that connects to the coil.

Now, I need just two sta cons... Any idea where I could get these special sta cons?

I then found the wires to the heating coil are brittle! So now I need to replace the wires (or leads) themselves!

It seems to me that it's part WB18X10149 but HEY! I don't need the ENTIRE assembly! Just one part from that whole set! (Probably the 4th down on the right of part #1648 inhttp://www.appliance-parts-warehouse.com...

Any idea how to break up part WB18X10149? (Also listedhttp://www.partstore.com/Part/General+El... and many more...)

    Thanks!

I have a GE Spacemaker Ovenover the range. JVM1490. There isn't a light that goes on with cooking anymore. Can't find how to replace it.

After disconnecting the power, you should be able to remove the control panel by removing a couple screws from the side or bottom. Once the control panel is removed you should be able to see the bulb.

GE Microwave PVM1790DR1BB light works but no fan and the turntable does not turn

I have this exact model with the same issue. I am a technician by trade on office equipment. I took the cover off where the door latches go in and there are 3 relay switches behind there. I adjusted the switches so the door latch would make better contact with them.

JVM1490 owners manual

GE has the manuals for their products on their support site: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/ . The direct link to the Use and Care manual for most JVM1490 Spacemaker Convection/Microwaves is http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-40345.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Microwave acts like its working but doesn't heat. The convection oven works.

Most likely causes are a blown fuse in HV area of microwave or an open thermal protector or thermal fuse.
Less likely causes are failure of various parts in the HV area.

Due to the lethal dangers inherent in microwaves, servicing of these parts is likely best left to a professional. That said, if you are technically versed I can point you in the direction of some good resources for troubleshooting and repair.

GE Profile Microwave will not heat

Unfortunately, there is no way to tell which part the microwave needs without opening it up for examination. There are a few parts that, if defective, would prevent the oven from heating.

  • a high voltage transformer which passes energy to the magnetron
  • a magnetron which converts high-voltage electric energy to microwave radiation
  • a magnetron control circuit (usually with a microcontroller)
This is NOT a repair that you would want to attempt yourself. The labor for the repair would cost a minimum of $50 and shouldn't exceed $100. You'll also have to pay for the necessary part if it's still available from the manufacture or their parts distributor.

Convection oven problem

Most of the time the magnetron is defective if the food is not heating up.
In some cases there is a defective low power transformer or other componenents associated with the magnetron.
I would suggest to check the owners manual under the warranty section. Sometimes the magnetron has 5 years warranty.
Good Luck.
