Tried pressing f2 and f12 - no joy I'm afraid. There's nothing on the screen at all - like I said, the computer buzzes six times and apart from the green light being on and the fan, there's nothing.

Checked monitor & that's OK. I think it's definitely the PC itself because this buzzing never usually happens. The same problem occurred one day last week - all I did was switch it off and try again & it was OK, but now it's gone completely. Not sure what to do now!

Would you believe I tried it again this afternoon and it works now? I haven't done anything - so I guess it will go again soon!

HI.Dell systems do have specific colors for the lights. Please let me know what is the color of the power button light on the system and the Monitor. If the light on the system is blinking amber/orange then it could be a case of Power supply. Also tell us whether u find any number 1234 it up on the tower just below the cd/dvd drive

It is probably your power supply that is going. That is what happened to my machine. Check that the fan is on on your power supply. If it isnt then your power supply is going and you will need to replace it. My computer lasted another couple of days before it died again

Backup! and be prepared when it happens again

Dell dimension 5150 wont boot past post. I've tried afew things but nothing works. can you help? thanks

If it won't go past POST then there is a hardware error. Try removing the hard drive and RAM. The mother board should complain at power on giving messages. If it does, try fitting the RAM module by module, then the hard drive.

I have a Dell Dimension 5150 Desktop Computer. I leave it on for hours on end and it has become extremely noisy from time to time, even when I am not actually using it. Recently it has become very...

There are several reason for this issue.
1. Power switch on CPU(Tower) might get locked while pressing.
2. SMPS might be old one.

1. Need to check the Power switch with the help of Multimeter.
2. Need to change the SMPS and check whether it is working.

When I start my computer it buzzes at me and the number 1 light stays on. I have tried removing and reintalling memory modules to no avail. This has been happening for months, but now it won't boot at all.

HERE is a link directly from Dell to what the diagnostic lights mean and possible solutions. Looks like it may be a memory issue but further troubleshooting will tell. Dell is usually pretty good about support even if you PC is out of warranty. At the very least they can help you diagnose the problem.

Dell dimension 5150 sleep mode

Perhaps, not the best solution. However, it should get you going. Hold the power button for 15 or more seconds. The machine should then power down. You should then be be able to reboot. If that does not work, remove the battery and the power cable. Reinsert and then boot the machine. Make sure that you let it scan the disks to fix any disk errors.

Dell 5150 - solid amber light at the switch.

Make sure the 12v power connector is securely connected to the system board. If you open up your computer look at the end of the board that the memory modules are there is a 4 pin connector thats the 12 v Make sure thats plugged in and secure, If thats ok you have already did the removal of the memory and replaced them, take out any pci express cards and use your onboard video, if that don't work try one memory module at a time see if that works you already seem to be savoy enough to do that and try that, and if that does not work you may need a new power supply. You can check it but probally will be bad I have the same desktop and thats been a problem with these 5150 along with the mother board going out after the warranty expires. I sure Hope this helps you out,, Happy Holidays to you and yours. Hey If you need me to look anything else up let me know. Thanks again bear001
