Question about Advent Computers & Internet
A commom power problem with laptops. To determine if it is the power socket on the laptop is the problem, plug in the adapter into the laptop and wriggle the plug and look at the charge/power LED on the laptop. If the LED flashes as you wriggle the plug then :-
The problem is the power socket on the laptop, it may caused by a dry solder joint and needs to be resoldered or the power socket may be faulty and needs to be replaced. Either way to fix this, it requires the laptop to be dismantled to get at this power socket. Get a quote to repair, as it could cost a few dollars.
If it is a faulty cord/plug on the power adapter, this can be checked with a multi-meter. When you connect the multi-meter probes to the power plug the voltage should be steady and the reading should be slightly higher then the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the power adapter. If the voltages fluctuates as you wriggle the plug then you have a broken wire in the plug. Replacing the plug would not cost much.
If these tests did not resolve your problem, then you could have a motherboard problem. A replacement motherboard may not be a cost effective solution. It may be better to put your money towards a new laptop.
