How to use F1, F2 ?..Function buttons on Hp laptop.

For those who do not know how to use the F1, F2, F3..... buttons on HP laptops, here is an opportunity for you to know.

We see these buttons on most laptops but don't know what they are used for. F1, F2....... buttons are the first set of buttons on the keyboard. These buttons makes it easy for anyone to access some programs on the computer without using mouse.

Follow the below procedures on how to use some of these functions:

To put your HP laptop on sleep mode, Press and hold Fn button on your keyboard, (without leaving it) then press F5 (Fn + F4).

To lock your HP laptop, Press and hold, Fn button, then press F6 (Fn + F6).

To reduce the brightness of your HP laptop, press and hold Fn button, then press F7 (Fn + F7).

To increase the brightness of your HP laptop, Press and hold Fn button, then press F8 (Fn + F8).

To put your laptop on mute, Press and hold Fn button, then press F9 (Fn + F8).

To reduce the volume of your HP laptop, Press and hold Fn button, then press F11 (Fn + F11).

To increase the volume of your HP laptop, Press and hold Fn button, then press F12 (Fn + F12).

To shut down your laptop or to view other shut down options, Press and hold Alt button, then press F4 (Alt + F4). Note that this particular function can be used on all computers and laptops.

My HP w2007 has started clicking to Monitor Going to Sleep and then going blank. I have never known how to wake it up so I have to turn the whole computer off and restart. HELP

Hey there, Normally simply pressing a random key on your keyboard or moving your mouse should wake it up, if it doesn't though I think the easiest way to solve this is to simply turn off the sleep mode after x amount of time.
If you have windows 7, press the start button and type in "power options", go ahead and open power options and there you will be able to set the time it takes before your PC shuts down, and you can also set it to never.

If you still wish to use this feature but just want to be able to it's a bit tricky and it won't even work for all PCs but if the keyboard waking isn't working, then it's probably because your pc does have this feature. When your PC is off, boot it up again and enter the bios by pressing F10 i believe it is for HP. And somewhere you should be able to set which devices are allowed to wake up your computer, all devices are probably disabled now, so go ahead and enable the keyboard to wake up your computer. Now save and exit, and the next time your PC goes to sleep mode you should be able to wake it up by pressing a key on your keyboard.

I hope I was able to assist. If I was, please don't forget to rate this solution.

I HAVE A MAC OS X DESKTOP AND THE WEBCAM IS NO LONGER WORKING AND I DONT KNOW WHY IT WAS WORKING BEFORE NOW ITS STOPPED CAN YOU HELP

The first step in trying to solve this problem is to perform a PRAM reset.

To reset your computer's PRAM:
  1. Shut down the computer.

  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

  3. Turn on the computer.

  4. Immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

  5. Release the keys.

If this does not solve the problem, perform this step.

    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    4. Release the power button.
    5. Attach the computers power cable.
    6. Press the power button to turn on the computer.

If neither fixes the issue further troubleshooting will need to be done to isolate this issue to either software or a broken webcam.

Apple 20 in Imac G5 turn on for about 40 second and shut it down itself .. please help

Sounds like you need to reset your SMU and NVRAM:

To reset your SMU:
  1. Turn off the computer by choosing Shut Down from the Apple menu, or by holding the power button until the computer turns off.
  2. Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
  3. Wait 10 seconds.
  4. Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button on the back of the computer.
  5. Let go of the power button.
  6. Press the power button once more to start up your iMac.

To reset your NVRAM:

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
  5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  6. Release the keys.
If those don't resolve the issue, your computer will probably need service. Good luck!

Someone is probably playing a prank on you. Disable the services one by one until you find the program that is assigning those programs hotkeys so programs can't run with hotkeys.

Keyboard volume control???

Based on years of using computers and seeing many keyboards when I used to do IT work, typically it's not standard for many keyboards to have that, sometimes different keyboards might have an "fn" key though which will allow for other options displayed on keys such as volume up or down. I can suggest a keyboard for you with the media keys if you really need it, anyways I hope you're having a good day, and that I helped somehow.
