Question about Brother HL 2140 Laser Printer

1 Answer

Black pages Replaced toner and drum. Same issue. Put current toner and drum in new 2140 printer and it worked just fine. Problem directly related to printer itself, and not toner/drum?

Look inside the printer and make sure none of the pins that contact the drum are bent down.

Brother HL-2140 laser printer, where is the toner located

The toner cartridge is inside the printer's drum unit. To change the toner, make sure that the printer is on and then open the front cover by pulling it down. Then pull the drum and toner cartridge assembly out of the printer. (Take care not to touch the electrodes on the sides of the drum.) Push down on the green lever (on the left side of the drum unit). Then you can remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit.

Open your new toner cartridge and then shake it gently and remove the protective cover. Put the new cartridge into the drum unit and push down until it clicks (the green lever should come up automatically). Slide the green tab along the corona wire back and forth several times. (Return it to the home position when done).

Then return the drum and toner assembly to the printer and close the front cover. Wait until the Ready light is lit before turning off the printer or reopening the front cover.

For pictures of the HL-2140 drum and toner assembly (and the toner replacement procedure), see page 60 and subsequent pages of the manual here: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/files/dlf/doc002308/cv_hl2140_usaeng_usr_d.pdf .

I hope this helps.

I HAVE HL 2140 PRINTER. INSTALLED NEW TONER BUT NOT PRINTING GETTING WITH DRUM ERROR

It is possible that the drum needs replacing.
Print a lifetime status page, and see if it says "drum 0%". If so, replace the drum and RESET the counters by using the reset button combination.

I need to change the toner of my printer HL-2140 model.how can i do it?

Turn on printer, open cover by pulling the handle (the one with a depression)towards you and pull down, you can see the ink drum of the printer, grip the drum assembly out.Get a big page of newspaper and lay the toner drum on to prevent the ink of making a mess. Then you'll notice a green lever on the drum, press it down to release the toner cartridge(carefull handling must be observed).Put the cartridge in plastic bag for proper disposal. And with a new toner installed in the drum do the reverse of the procedure.

636 is a lot of pages and depends on the toner coverage you may need to replace the toner.. 80 - 75% (is that used is remaining ??) any way check your waste toner basket first (see you manual for instructions) chances are its filled and needs cleaning or replacing (see your manual for instructions) If its fine then change your toner .. If you have the demo toner (toner shipped with machine) these contain less toner than a new cartridge and will finish faster ...

Brother 2140 toner light on, won't even try to print.

To get every bit of toner powder out of the cartridge, first remove the toner unit from the drum assembly. Second, find the little circular window on the right-side of the toner cartridge. Third, place a piece of black electrical tape over the clear window, cannot be clear tape. Fourth, re-install the toner cartridge into the drum assembly. Last, put the complete unit back into your printer. This worked for me.

Brother HL-2140 printing black pages.

Hi Nacardi,
Could be bad toner (toner sitting on shelf for too long). Or the drum could have been over exposed. The drum is light sensitive.

Pages full of toner / toner streaking

First off, this is a comment from a random person who may or may not know ALOT about these printers and toner/printer design in general. All toners are not designed to the same specification. Toner is a combination of plastic "pigment" and iron like shavings to make it magentically attracted to the electrical charges within the unit. Different toners conform to different grades and mainly size of the particles within the blend. The manufacturer doesnt only recommend that you use their toner to make them money, yes of course it makes money, but its because when the unit is designed it is designed to use a certain grade of toner, trust me if you put the non-branded toner vs the branded toner under a microscope you would see quite a difference. Often the non-branded toner is much larger in particle size (obviousely because its cheaper to make at this spec). This causes a variety of issues from excess toner not being cleaned off of developer rollers, IDT rollers, or clogging of toner dispenser tubes in the unit and the micro filters contained at the toner dispenser assy and developer assys. Also as for the issue not changing when switching to dell branded toner - the dispenser tubes within this unit contain up to 500-1000 pages worth of toner, making no change in toner you make immediately visible. Also depending on the damage caused by the previous toner, it may not be able to be fixed until all the components in between the toner and final delivery (drum cart) are replaced. In this case more than likely the toner dispenser assy, all developer assy's, and drum cartridge need to be replaced, and than be sure to stick with factory branded toner :)
