Similar issue with blurry picture on Insignia 42", but fine through DVD player (S-Video). Cannot seem to get a good, clear HD picture even with using HDMI port via DishNetwork tuner.

In order to get 1080i resolution you must use a HDMI cable or else all you will get is 780 resolution. Read you manual carefully. You have a selection of sources the TV will read from. If your using cable or satellite to get you signal then there will be a selection for that source; make sure the TV is tuned for that source. The same is true for the DVD player. If all else fails have someone else familiar with flat-screens look at it. I always recommend paying a bit more and getting the extended warranty, it's worth its weight (or cost) should something like this happen. If the TV is brand new and you have this problem, take it back and have it replaced. If the next one does the same thing then its not the TV. There are lemons in everything but these sets are usually very well tested before they leave the factory. Hope this helps but get the HDMI cable, you'll be amazed at the quality in 1080 resolution. Oh yeah, as far as the picture looking like a soap opera, welcome to the world of Hi def TV, that's normal and you'll get use to it very quickly.

I have an Insignia 42"

First, I would check the connection to see if everything is in it's proper place and plugged in nice and snug.
Second, I'd try watching something else on the TV and see how it looks, I'd also try watching something using the same cable/input the DVD player is using. If that fails, try a different cable.
If your TV checks out, and it's your DVD player, it might be time to upgrade to Blu-Ray or buy a new DVD player.
Hope this helps, cheers.

Your probably having what cable guys call a SNR ( signal to noise ) issue. There's no way to know unless you call your cable provider. The SNR should be 32 and above with zero pre/post errors. In case you want to ask the tech what they are.

How to set 42" Insignia from 780p-1080p.(don't know if that's the problem)T.v. connected to satillite and still get snowy ,blurry picture..My old t.v. with satillite looked better than this new t.v

You may need to adjust the native resolution passthrough setting on your satellite tv box. Besides that you set 1080i on the satellite tv box not the tv. The tv just picks it up automatically. You may call the satellite tv company directly to ask for assistance in completing these two things.

I have a 42 inch Insignia plasma tv. I only hook

If you have the audio cables hook up correctly to where the video cable from DVD is connected to, it should be RED and WHITE wires for audio. Then go to on screen audio setup menu to see if the speakers is turn off in the menu. Also try hooking up the powered PC speakers to the AUDIO LINE out RCA jacks to see if you get the sound OK there.

Tv picture looks grainy like it was shot on video

well most lcd and plasma tv's above 36" will look grainy on standard definition because they are made for high definition so if you do not receive a high definition signal to your tv then that would most likely be the problem

I would check the connections to make sure they are good. The video connection could have gotten knocked loose. Sometimes they just come loose.
