Question about Nintendo DS Console

Is it possible for the DS to work without the top screen...

You see, my top screen is totaly broken the ribbon cable has been snapped.. so I am wondering if there is a way for the DS to work as just a GBA type system... I want to have the top screen disconected and than remove the hinges so that i can put a GBA game in the bottom and run it like that. Is this possible? Right now my charger plugs in fine and it charges fine. I just have the screen flash problem.. (its the bottom screen that flashes) I already know that it is flashing because the top screen is gone.. but is there any way for me to tell the DS to not go to the top screen. By removing a certain peice of the circut board? Anyway Its moslty just a simple yes or no quesion.

Technically no as you need both screens to be plugged in but ive heard that you can get a link cable to link both screens but haven't actually tried it myself so cant be sure it will work.

My ds lite images on the top screen flickering.

Open up the DS and then unseat and reseat the ribbon cable that goes to the screen.

Once you do that, turn on the DS and if the screen is still flickering then the screen will need to be replaced.

Here is a tutorial on how to open up the DS and what the ribbon cable looks like:

Broken in half got new shell don't know how to put together

much of it is pretty straight forward, the only hard part is putting the ribbon cable thru the hinge for the top screen, without ripping it, best thing to say is put the ribbon cable in first, then the wifi and mic cables (black and white), rest is pretty straightforward.

Ds lite

sorry to say that your top screen needs completely replacing if it is doing as described!!
the bottom screen and the touch screen are seperate, jus mounted on top of each other, so if the picture works on the bottom then the bottom screen is fine just the touch screen is broken. again i think if the cables/ribbons are in correctly and it isn't responding then it will need replacing!!

Broken nds ribbon cable

Yes, this can be fixed. You will need to replace the top LCD screen of the NDS, as the cable attaches directly to it. The speakers will need to be soldered to the new top LCD screen, as the top replacement screens usually do not come with speakers attached to it.

Broken top screen (original DS)

Replying to the first post:
If you have broken the ribbon cable, which is highly likely if you have broken the hinge, then the DS will not work. It does not turn on unless there is a connection to both screens. You will need to buy a new ribbon cable for it:
A useful site I found is: www.consoleparts4u.co.uk

Once you replace this then it should work for you.

Repling to th second post:

I would recommend buying a new case for it at least because the ribbon cable will break if left broken due to the strain on it.

The more expensive but easier option is to buy a new one.

Hope this helps,

Mowcius

Onceturned on, the green light goes on, the touch screen flashes white, then it all turns off.

You might only have a loosen screen ribbon cable.

If not careful while taking out the top screen ribbon you can damage it causing blank screens and finally the DS wont work.

The solution to a broken top screen ribbon is to replace the whole screen in DS lite or buy the ribbon cable in the DS fat and replace.

If the broken top screen ribbon is caused by broken hinge then you should replace the shell also to avoid other broken screen.

Make sure your ribbon cable is all the way in and that the clamp on the connector is down.

Green screen

There is a ribbon that connects the top screen of the ds to the motherboard. It is possible that this ribbon became damaged when the hinge broke. A possible fix would be to replace the upper screen. Hope this helps.
