Question about Garmin GPS 12XL GPS Receiver
Agreed, it's a limitation of the older GPS units - they lost signal easily in the bush. For my 12XL I used to have an external antenna plugged into the back - it helped but is a real nuisance. A good source of reliable antennas is Gilsson Technologies in California: http://www.gilsson.com/garmin_gps/antennas/mcx.htm

Not a lot you can do about this afraid.
Some devices specify a optimum handling angle for best satellite reception. For example, my old Nokia N82 phone used to work best on a 45 degree angle!
