I bought this product to make it easier for me to clean, as my health is not good.
Please mention the kind of vacuum cleaner you have. If your vacuum cleaner has a dial to adjust the height, you will need to raise the sweeper from the floor. If the sweeper is at the lowest setting itt wiill slow down the brush roller and be very hard to push. Turn the dial to a medium position or a number 3. The belt could be another problem if it’s loose.
This post is too old for orig. poster, but in case others have same question: I had this problem when strong Dyson suction & brush action could suck thin or moveable carpets into the cleaner head opening - stopping the brush bar/roller - which could be temporarily resolved by switching off the vacuum cleaner, and pulling the carpet out of the cleaner head - it doesn't go in far, just enough to stop the brush bar. It doesn't seem to occur on heavier or better fixed in place carpets/rugs.
Sounds like the little motor that drives the brush is going bad. You need to replace the cleaner head.

Hi.
Check that brush roller (beater bar) is free to turn with no obstruction.
If it is still noisey after doing this try this site for Dyson repair manuals.

If this model has a brush control - i.e a roller at the side of the model which controls brush to spin or not, then its a protected brush model - therefore even if the drive belt is intact the Dyson would have to be repaired by a service personnel or professional. The brush protection isn't able to be taken apart and sounds like it may well have slipped off due to tension.

It's likely that one of the brush roll bearings has worn out. This is not uncommon. I think you'll find that you have to replace both the brush roll and the sole plate at the same time. Dyson sell them together as a kit.

Check the axles of the wheels for debris accumulation. Also, make sure the height is set for the type of carpet that you have. Try pushing the machine on a bare floor--is it hard to move there also? Hope this helps!
CARPETS OR HARD FLOORS
• The brush bar will always default to 'ON' (spinning) each time you switch the
appliance 'ON' and recline it for cleaning.
• The brush bar will not rotate when the appliance is upright.
• To switch the brush bar 'OFF' (e.g. for delicate rugs and hard floors):
- switch the appliance 'ON'
- recline the appliance
- press the brush bar 'ON/OFF' button - the brush bar will stop spinning.
• The brush bar will automatically stop if it becomes obstructed. See 'Brush bar -
clearing obstructions'.
• Before vacuuming your flooring, rugs and carpets, check the manufacturer's
recommended cleaning instructions.
• Some carpets may fuzz if a rotating brush bar is used when vacuuming. If this
happens, we recommend vacuuming in 'hard floor' mode and consulting with
the flooring manufacturer.
• The brush bar on the appliance may damage some carpet types. If you are
unsure, turn 'OFF' the brush bar.
