You may find the problem is with the connections from the battery to the circuit board. Take the back off and check the battery connectors where they contact the board. They may need cleaning or re aligning
The first cups you'll be able to unlock are the Leaf Cup and the Star Cup. To get the Star Cup, you must get Gold on both the Mushroom Cup and the Flower Cup. To get the Leaf Cup, you must get Gold on the Shell Cup and the Banana Cup.
Once you get those, you can unlock the Lightning Cup and the Special Cup. Lightning Cup is unlocked by getting Gold on the Leaf Cup and the Special Cup is unlocked by getting Gold on the Star Cup.
